Perhaps we should call these "unproven therapies" since many of them are on the American Cancer Society's infamous black list. Simply because something is "unproven" does not mean that it has been "disproven." And if a therapy fits the following— 1. It works.

Castor Oil Packs Cayenne Pepper Chaparral Chinese Bitter Melon Chiropractic Clodronate Coley's Toxins Contortrostatin C-Statin D-limonene DMSO Electrolyzed Water Ellagic Acid Enzyme Therapy Escharotics Essential Oils

2. It's inexpensive. 3. Few, if any, negative side effects. 4. It's not patentable. —odds are it will stay on the black list because no one is going to spend a dime to prove its effectiveness. Medicine is a business. Cancer is a business. The FDA is running a protection racket, protecting drug companies and the AMA from anyone with an inexpensive and effective treatment for money making diseases. The following therapies are not guaranteed to work, at least by us. They are presented to you for information purposes only. For many, their effectiveness has been shown in limited clinical trials, but each one, by itself, is not enough. Everything works, when you do everything. Using an alternative therapy is not holistic, it is simply one rung in the ladder you must climb to reach your goal of perfect health. Some of these therapies can be used as preventative measures, but, even a preventative measure can help to fight an existing cancer, when used with a life style change and other therapies. Alternative Therapies

...There are many different alternative therapies to treat the disorders of the GI system. First of all there are herbal treatments for GI disorders. At least 50% of GI patients have used some type of herbal treatment to relieve their symptoms. According to "Herbal Treatment For Gastrointestinal Disorders" (2013), "the overall philosophy of alternative medicine takes a uniform holistic approach that all diseases result from disturbances at a combination of physical, psychological, social and spiritual levels” (What is complementary and alternative medicine?). Alternative medicine is used to restore balance to the body and help in its own healing process and that GI disorders are the most common diseases that people will use an alternative practitioner. Herbal therapy is used for many different issues including nausea and vomiting, irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea, constipation, and GI cancers ("Herbal Treatment For Gastrointestinal Disorders", 2013). One home remedy for nausea and vomiting is Ginger. It can be used to treat vomiting from things like morning sickness, motion and sea sickness, chemotherapy and surgery. Capsaicin is from the red pepper and it will block the signals in nerve fibers that carry the pain sensation from the abdominal organs to the brain. It’s been found to help things like upper abdominal pain, nausea and bloating. Peppermint oil will cause the smooth muscle in the intestines to not contract. This means that it can be used for relief from......

Diabetes/Alternative Therapy Activity

...Diabetes/Alternative Therapy Activity 1). Identification and description of the health promotion/alternative therapy activity; including any historical information The alternative therapy activity for diabetes is the acupuncture therapy. Acupuncture is one of the ancient ways of treatment which is around 800 years old. In those years, the Chinese used sharp stones or bones as their surgical instruments. Acupuncture continued to develop since then and has now become one of the leading therapies in the world. The treatment of diabetes by acupuncture therapy is best known for reducing blood glucose levels mostly in the patients with type 2 which is non–insulin diabetes and the most common. The process has identified around 20 body points which are very effective in reducing the blood glucose levels. The main points of acupuncture therapy in the treatment of diabetes conditions are sanyinjiao, zusanli, quchii and the yishu. These points are chosen on the bases of the diabetes history, and the specific stage of the diabetes. The acupuncture points and the treatment process are different from person to person. This diabetes therapy is treated using the combination of acupuncture and specific Chinese herbal medicines which have a hypoglycemic effect. One of the herbs called ginseng plays a major in lowering the blood glucose levels (Oleson, 2012). In a single session, acupuncture may involve the application of dozen points for the treatment. The course for the treatment of......

Alternative Cancer Treatments

...Alternative Cancer Treatments According to “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention” (2013), “Each year globally, 12.7 million people learn they have cancer, and 7.6 million people die from the disease” (para. 1). Cancer treatments can be affective, depending on the type and level of the cancer. Doctors often offer different treatment options to patients. Most of these treatments include medications that can affect the body in a harmful way in attempt to kill the cancer. Many patients are starting to look for alternative treatments. There are no conventional or alternative treatments guaranteed to cure a patient from cancer. A major concern about alternative treatments is its use as a false lure to a cure. Although there is no cure for cancer, alternative treatments may prove to be helpful along with conventional treatment as cancer becomes more common. To understand how alternative treatments can assist cancer patients along with their conventional treatments, we must first ask what cancer is, and how it can affect the human body. According to “National Cancer Institute” (2013), “Cancer is a term used for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and are able to invade other tissues” (para. 1). As cancer cells continue to divide, they can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. These abnormal cells can cause some major issues throughout the body. A broad spectrum of non-specific cancer symptoms can include a......

Understanding the Complex-I-Ty of Metformin Action: Limitiing Mitochondrial Respiration to Improve Cancer Therapy

...mitochondrial respiration to improve cancer therapy Alba Luengo1, Lucas B Sullivan1 and Matthew G Vander Heiden1,2* Abstract Metformin has been a first-line treatment for type II diabetes mellitus for decades and is the most widely prescribed antidiabetic drug. Retrospective studies have found that metformin treatment is associated with both reduced cancer diagnoses and cancer-related deaths. Despite the prevalence of metformin use in the clinic, its molecular mechanism of action remains controversial. In a recent issue of Cancer & Metabolism, Andrzejewski et al. present evidence that metformin acts directly on mitochondria to inhibit complex I and limits the ability of cancer cells to cope with energetic stress. Here, we discuss evidence that supports the role of metformin as a cancer therapeutic. See research article: The biguanide metformin is an antihyperglycemic agent used to treat type II diabetes. Metformin decreases blood glucose levels by suppressing liver gluconeogenesis and stimulating glucose uptake in skeletal muscle and adipose tissues. Metformin is prescribed to over 120 million people, providing a wealth of epidemiological data. Retrospective studies have found that metformin treatment is associated with diminished tumorigenesis, with a recent meta-analysis of these studies reporting a 31% reduction in cancer incidence and a 34% reduction in cancer-specific mortality across many......

Alternative Cancer Treatments

...Alternatives for conventional cancer therapies are on the rise. They treat cancer in safer ways. People mostly decide on alternative cancer medicine as a last resort after conventional methods have failed, or when they are too weak after a series of conventional treatments to take another. These therapies should be integrated with conventional treatment and not only as a last resort. One such therapy is with dichloroacetate (DCA) which is sodium salt from dichloroacetic acid obtained as a by-product of the chlorination of municipal drinking water. It is an inexpensive and nearly harmless chemical which has also been used for the treatment of diabetes in the last twenty years. In 2007, University of Alberta discovered that DCA causes death of cancer cells without affecting the healthy cells. According to Medicor Cancer Centers Inc., which treated patients who were drained after conventional cancer treatment using DCA treatment, 60% reacted progressively to the DCA therapy with reversible effects. The cost of treatment in Medicor Cancer Centers Inc. is between $160 and $190 weekly with about $75 monthly for supplements which manage the side effects during the therapy. It is cheaper than conventional cancer treatment. Many people use the therapy in their own home, to lower costs, but it is better to have a doctor who can control side effects which are reversible under supervision. Alternative Cancer Treatment

...Alternative Cancer Treatment by Tammy Willingham-Loomis Alternative Cancer Treatment A diagnosis of cancer affects the patient, family and friends. The individual may feel uncertain, scared, numb, confused or angry because of the cancer diagnosis. The person may mentally shut down, have difficulty listening, remembering and even understanding what the doctor said. Many people that have a cancer diagnosis may have 5 years left to live or even less (American Cancer Society, 2014). James "Rhio" O'Connor was no different when he was given no more than a year for survival after receiving a diagnosis of mesothelioma cancer. Rhio’s chosen path in fighting this deadly disease allowed him an additional six years with his family and friends (O’Connor, 2014). Treatment can be expensive, painful and make the individual feel sick. Feeling scared and trapped people often seek out anyone that may offer a cure for their cancer (American Cancer Society, 2014). Rhio was no different; creating a controversial treatment protocol that consisted of minerals, vitamins, fruits and vegetable components. Rhio’s lifestyle changed and a vegetarian diet was consumed with foods high in herbs, amino acids, necessary fatty acids, enzymes, and Rhio practice mind over body medicine (O’Connor, 2014). Many individual’s diagnosed with cancer travel to Mexico seeking natural holistic cancer treatments that are not FDA approved. Clinics and institutes in Mexico offer holistic cancer treatments. ......

Myofascial Pain Syndrome: Alternative Therapies

...Myofascial Pain Syndrome: Alternative Therapies Myofascial pain, characterized by chronic pain affecting connective tissue of muscles is often chronic and the most common symptom is trigger points. Trigger points are areas of highly sensitive muscle tissue prone to spasm and pain (sometimes referred) upon palpation. Myofascial pain is related to strains or injuries to the muscle tissue or strenuous use of muscles after a period of sedentary activity such as after having a stroke or breaking a bone. (, 2013) Most often, myofascial pain affects areas of the spine; lower back, shoulders, and neck. Myofascial pain is identified or diagnosed by a physician upon completion of a physical exam involving questions surrounding the onset of the symptoms. Which include tender muscles, pain that happens with pressure on a trigger point, weakness in the affected area and sometimes limitation to the range-of-motion of the affected area. (Cleveland Clinic, 2013) Causes are suspect related to stress; stress is probably the biggest factor. Poor posture combined with overuse of muscles is also suspected contributors to the cause of myofascial pain and trigger point sensitivities. Conventional treatment for myofascial pain and trigger points include physical therapy, which focusses on strengthening, stretching and posture improvement exercises. Medications can also be used like Non-Steroidal-Anti-Inflammatory (NSAIDs) drugs, analgesics like Tramadol® for mild-to-severe pain and...

Magnetic Nanoparticle in Cancer Therapy

...Summary Magnetic nanoparticles have allowed for many breakthroughs in cancer therapy. They are currently being implemented with cancer diagnostics, which allows healthcare professionals to image where cancerous areas reside in the body. For example, magnetic nanoparticle have been utilized in conjunction with MRI scans to greatly increase the image contrast, leading to the detection of small and otherwise undetectable prostate cancer metastases. Additionally, nanoparticles are being used as a physical means of destroying tumorous tissue by the use of Magnetic Nanoparticle Hyperthermia. This technology uses the power of magnets to oscillate iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles to create heat in the form of kinetic energy and has shown to drastically reduce the size of brain tumors when compared to patients who have no treatment at all. Beyond their use as diagnostics and physical tools to destroy cancerous tumors, magnetic nanoparticles are also used as a delivery agent for gene therapy. For example, magnetic nanoparticles have shown to increase the half life of the various biological matter such as DNA and RNA so that it can reach the intended target before the body’s immune response destroys the magnetic gene delivery system. In the future, research will be focused on pharmacokinetics of the nanoparticles, ensuring the nanoparticles can stay in the body for longer periods of time and that the body reacts in a positive manner to the magnetic......

...Lung Cancer In general, cancer kills on average 7.9 million people worldwide every year, which is 13% of all deaths. Cancer is not just one disease but rather a group of diseases, all of which causes cells in the human body to change and grow out of control. Cancers are classified either according to the kind of fluid or tissue from which it originates. One of these types of cancer is Lung Cancer, more people die from lung cancer than any other cancer. With the advances of medicine and technology, options are available to people with lung cancer to help them live a longer life, thus giving suffers more time to spend with their loved ones. Lung Cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. Most cases are directly linked to tobacco use. Around 220,000 people are diagnosed with lung cancer every year. It starts in the lungs but can quickly spread to surrounding areas. Lung cancer occurs when the cells in the lung grow at an uncontrollable rate. It will form in the tissue of the lung, most often in the cells that line the air passages and damage the tissue that surrounds it and then interferes with normal functioning of the lung. It can then quickly spread to the lymph system. Lymph nodes are small organs that link lymph vessels and contain lymph which is a clear fluid that helps fight infection and travels through the body in vessels that are like veins. The cells can also quickly spread to other parts of the body through the blood. Even though the cancer may spread......

Proton Therapy

...Proton Therapy Name Institution Date Proton Therapy Introduction Proton therapy refers to an advanced as well as effective form of treatment for malignant tumors without causing damage to adjacent body tissue and organs. In the U.S.A cancer stand out as the second most common cause of death. In fact, cancer account for approximately one out of every four deaths that occur in the entire nation (Woolfolk, 2011). There are several ways and methods of treating cancer; however, proton therapy stands out as the best and most efficient method of treating cancer patients. It solely uses protons rather than x-rays towards the treatment of cancer. These protons are released at high energy; at high energy protons have a high likelihood of destroying cancer. Some doctors use this therapy alone whereas others combine it with other therapies like chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and surgery. It is most preferred for tumors that have not spread as well as for tumors near vital body organs like the spinal cord, the brain, and near the eye (Poludniowski, Allinson, & Evans, 2015). It is also recommended for treating tumors in children since it has a low likelihood of damaging healthy developing tissues. How Proton Therapy is beneficial compared to alternative treatments Unlike, x-rays, this therapy does not expose the body to radiation dose beyond the tumor. X-rays continually deposit radiation doses as the exit the body of the patient. This is a clear......

...NEW TREATMENTS FOR CANCER A new revolution for cancer therapy has been created which is called “molecularly targeted therapy”. Since most drugs kill healthy cells along with cancer cells and cause serious side effects, this therapy will only kill the cancer cells of a specific cancer type. They are designed at the molecular level of the cell and are also able to identify specific molecules that are unique to specific cancers. One of the most eligible drug is called glivec, (also known as STI571) actively effecting a form of leukemia called chronic myeloid leukemia that causes excess overproduction of white blood cells. Moreover, in a case study it is reported that a gastroiestional stromal tumor was treated with STI571 and resulted in a significant reduction of the tumor. As this therapy promises the health of the patient, it also has some negative impacts and some limitations. Since this drug is specific to a small amount of molecules, it is not relevant to a large amount of tumors, meaning it is very limited in its application. Furthermore, the patients may experience diarrhea and liver problems such as hepatitis and elevated liver enzymes. All in all, molecularly targeted therapies hold the promise of harming fewer cells, reducing side effects and assuring a healthier life. Another new advancement in cancer treatments is called “immunotherapy”. This therapy is developed to enhance the immune system to fight cancer, reducing all severe side effects. The t- cells protect...

Lung Cancer

...Unit 8 Assignment 1: Mutations and Cancer GE150 Date Due: May 17,2016 Elaine Leppert Lung Cancer Lung cancer, the most common killer cancer in the world, is largely caused by smoking. New results suggest that amongst smokers, some people may be as much as 80% more at risk than others because of their genes. By scanning the entire genomes of lung-cancer patients and healthy controls, research teams identified a region on chromosome 15 that seems to influence the likelihood of developing cancer. People possessing a certain set of mutations at this genetic location are more likely than others to have the disease. Research suggests about 50% of the general population carries a single copy of this cancer gene variant, while another 10% of the population is likely to carry two copies of this set of mutations, raising cancer risk by as much as 80% relative to people with equivalent lifestyles without the cancer-linked gene variant (Hopkin,2016). The most relevant genes in lung cancer include the following: EGFR, KRAS, MET, LKB1, BRAF, PIK3CA, ALK, RET, and ROS1 (El-Telbany & Ma,2012). Lung Cancer and the effects of smoking A typical smoker who refuses or fails to give up has a roughly 15% risk of lung cancer over their lifetime, but with two copies of the genetic variant, this rises to 23%. Researchers disagree over whether non-smokers who possess the genetic......

...Urine Therapy We look at urine as waste and unsanitary toxins that can cause bodily harm if consumed back into the body. Little that we know that urine has been used for medicine, muscle relaxing treatments, rubbing alcohol, acne treatment, religious purposes, and even something bizarre as consuming it since the beginning of time. So is urine as toxic, disgusting and harmful that we think or is we simply misinterpreting and over reacting to a natural healthy therapeutic solution? Urine therapy has been around for a long time. The Romans and Spaniards used urine to keep their teeth bright and white. They believe that urine from another man or themselves was rich and kept plaque from building up. Religiously, urine was looked at as oil or pure substances that helped relax and heal the body. An India religious Sanskrit called Damar Tantra “pure water or one’s own urine” and actual named the fluid, Shivambu Kalpa. They believed by applying the natural fluid to wounds, sore body parts, or infected areas, would help prevent any fared infections and heal any wounds. Even the Bible mentions urine therapy! A verse in Proverbs (Proverbs 5:15) advices: “Drink waters from thy own cistern, flowing water from thy own well.” Urine therapy has been mention all too often to not believe that it has some kind of positive effect. Let’s try and look at it from a scientific stand point. Scientist conducted studies to see if urine therapy method was a phony or factual. In fact, urine showed......
