Abstract
[The abstract should be one paragraph of between 150 and 250 words. It is not indented. Section titles, such as the word Abstract above, are not considered headings so they don’t use bold heading format. Instead, use the Section Title style. This style automatically starts your section on a new page, so you don’t have to add page breaks. Note that all of the styles for this template are available on the Home tab of the ribbon, in the Styles gallery.]

[Title Here, up to 12 Words, on One to Two Lines]
[The body of your paper uses a half-inch first line indent and is double-spaced. APA style provides for up to five heading levels, shown in the paragraphs that follow. Note that the word Introduction should not be used as an initial heading, as it’s assumed that your paper begins with an introduction.]
[Heading 1]
[The first two heading levels get their own paragraph, as shown here. Headings 3, 4, and 5 are run-in headings used at the beginning of the paragraph.]
[Heading 2]1
[To add a table of contents (TOC), apply the appropriate heading style to just the heading text at the start of a paragraph and it will show up in your TOC. To do this, select the text for your heading. Then, on the Home tab, in the Styles gallery, click the style you need.]
[Heading 3]. [Include a period at the end of a run-in heading. Note that you can include consecutive paragraphs with their own headings, where appropriate.]
[Heading 4]. [When using headings, don’t skip levels. If you need a heading 3, 4, or 5 with no text following it before the next heading, just add a period at the end of the heading and…...

Be sure that both the last name and the page number appear in the running-header, and that the running-header is all 12-point font. Also note that the paper identifier will appear in the heading after the course number and a colon. The date should appear in this form: day, month, year—no commas. All margins are one inch. All works cited (including both primary and secondary sources) should appear at the end of the paper on its own page. It will be called the Works Cited page, and the words “Works Cited” will appear at the top of the page, centered, with no other formatting. Then you will list the bibliographic information of all works cited, alphabetically by author or first word in the entry. The Works Cited page is also double-spaced, within and between each bibliographic entry. Be sure that each entry is left justified on the first line, and subsequent lines are indented five spaces (one TAB). Follow standard MLA practice for bibliographic entries. When you directly quote, or even if you paraphrase, the language of a primary or secondary source, you cite that source parenthetically. The following sentence is an example of an MLA-style parenthetical reference: A consideration of the importance of self-reliance must understand that, “Because it is my name!” (Miller 143). ...Following APA 6th Edition Formatting Style Johanna P. Bishop Wilmington University The Basics of Formatting a Paper in APA 6th ed. Style Introduction In order for a paper to be perfectly formatted in accordance to APA style requirements, the paper must follow certain conventions. The basic conventions include making sure that specific rules are followed regarding margins, spacing, in-text citations and formatting the cover and reference pages. Understanding what these conventions are and how to follow them will help students to properly format their papers in APA style. This paper has been formatted in APA style so that it serves as an example of what properly formatted APA style papers look like. Basic APA Conventions The most basic convention in following APA formatting is to use a one inch margin all around for the paper. Students should pay attention to what version of Microsoft office they use as the older version has set the left and right default margins to 1.25 inches while the top and bottom margins are set to one inch. That means students will have to manually adjust the margins to one inch all around. Newer versions of Microsoft Word have set the default margins to one inch all around. Preferred Font Another basic element of APA style papers is the font used. The preferred font style is Times Roman 12 point font. Since the default font for MS Word 2007 is Calibri, students will need to reset the default font on MS Word 2007. Students using older......

...newer versions of Microsoft Office, formatting has become easier for some people and more difficult for others. Those that it is easier for usually are the less experienced. The newer versions of Microsoft Office are putting so many options up in the ribbon they are easier to find for those that are not as familiar with the product. The new version is also reducing the need for researching on how to do something since these ribbons are really easy to navigate. With all of these advancements, there could be difficulty for those that are already familiar with the product. When a new version comes out, it usually rearranges were a lot of things are located at and that leads to delays in trying to find the correct formatting tool. After a while of getting used to the new version, things start to clear up, but it does take time. This is no to say that the new versions are bad, but sometimes there really doesn’t need to be any changes. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Also, another issue I sometimes notice which may lead to problems is that now there are so many options. I understand sometimes there is a need to have graphic designs or special fonts, but wouldn’t you want to use a special program for that? I feel sometimes less is best and it keeps things simple and less room for error. Interesting fact about formatting, in the world of Information Technology, the term “formatting” can have several different meanings. • Disk formatting “the process of preparing a......

Formatting Issues

...Week One Checkpoint: Formatting Issues Pamela Newsome IT/206 August 26, 2011 Patricia Byerly Week One Checkpoint: Formatting Issues Some business uses for inserting a canvas within a Microsoft Word document are by being able to create a canvas from several options that are available on what type of content can be inserted. Some examples are being able to create various drawings that can be moved individually, or together, insert files rather than having to paste them on a document. Another use for inserting a canvas is for annotating a picture with callouts. A strategy that I feel may help users overcome formatting issues is to first let them know that it is better to first plan ahead by selecting the type of text that they are going to use, along with the front size, and color before typing. By making sure that the Auto complete is on to help correct words that we sometimes misspell when we are typing to help cut down on the time of creating the document. I would sit down with them and have them to play with different pictures, while giving them instructions on how to insert a canvas within a Microsoft Word document. An example would be me asking the user to apply a picture to a document. While the user is attempting to do this I help the by showing the different ways it could be completed. Reference Nott, T.
