...The Maori Kinship of New Zealand Jeramie Simpson Introduction to Cultural Anthrology 101 Justine Lemos December 26, 2011   The Maori Kinship of New Zealand In today’s world, tight-knit groups of people can be hard to come by. Many families and friends can be split up by quarrels, divorces, politics or governmental laws. However, the Maori of New Zealand are an exception to this statement. The Maori of New Zealand are a close-knit kinship that still have an impact on the New Zealand society and the country today. Over 700 years ago, people for Eastern Polynesia and Hawaii settled the land of New Zealand, many of the same groups that settled centuries ago, are there today, this includes the Maori of New Zealand. (Walter, Smith, & Jacomb, p 2006). It is thought and taught throughout the lands that the Maori came by canoe from European countries. This is a great argument among scholars, is this true or was this a fabrication from ancestors long ago? Scholars have researched and have yet to prove or disprove the group coming to their new land by canoes. (Hanson, 1989) After their settlement in their new lands, seven centuries ago, the Maori began as a small community that had several different villages and communities that were made up of extended family members consisting of a few dozen or more people. This group of people were known as a sub-tribe or “hapu..” ( Walter, Smith, &Jacomb, 2006) The Maorian kinship and its numbers would often vary; this was...

Final Exam Philosophy 101

...Final Exam Philosophy 101 The base questions posed by philosophy, seem almost like puzzles themselves. “What is knowledge”, “What is it to exist”, “is it possible to know something”, these questions at first seem so simple that it's easy to assume an answer but by nature so abstract that the answers will always be arguable. Looking at it from a teachers view point, arguability may have been the point, to cause a student to continually question, to inspire them to reevaluate past beliefs. In ancient times the Question was the only tool they had to investigate the world around them, so it stands to reason that the purpose of the Questions was more than just a problem in need of a solution. The Question was a tool used to investigate the problem, and once the solution was thought to be found, it would then be turned into a question of it's own and used to see if the original question was correct. It's easy to see how algebra evolved from this type of thought. Religion is a subject that I've always avoided it turns normal rational people into crazed unyielding lunatics. While this is just my opinion, it is hard to argue, because of how many wars have been fought and people killed over religious beliefs. One fascinating behavior is the way a person can be rational level headed and kind even when faced with beliefs that conflict with their own. But to challenge the shared beliefs of a group of rational level headed, kind people is often deadly. My WOW moment in this......

When I generate information about a particular subject, I like to leave the reader wanting more. Most often, I write from the vantage point of expressive aim; indeed, I write about personal issues that affect all people on a daily basis. I usually map my rhetorical situation according to the subject matter; interestingly enough, from the perspectives of knowledge by observation and participation. My core audience ranges from high school and college graduates to both, male and female older adults of all persuasions. The content of my writings are geared towards individuals who are further advanced in life than others who haven’t experienced working to support a family, being responsible for one’s family’s expenses, or career specific employment. I have chosen written assignments 2, 3 and 4 as the essays I want entered into my writing portfolio. I chose these essays because they stem from my life’s experiences, and are all addressed to my core audience. They utilize the expressive aim of writing, and for the most part, have similar deficiencies. My writings need stronger sentence structure at times, in addition to, crafting more concise conclusions. When I frame my conclusions, I need......
