Accounting 101Essay Homework: Beyond the Numbers 1-3

In the scenario given for this problem, the parties potentially affected by this audit and the fee plan proposed are the management for Allnet Company, Craig Thorne, as well as Craig Thorne’s public accounting firm. Since ethics is are accepted standards that determine good or bad behavior, there is a few ethical factors here that needs to be taken into consideration. According to the textbook “the preferred path is a course of action that avoids casting doubt on one’s decision”. In this scenario, Allnet’s management suggested that the fee range for Craig Thorne’s audit services of their financial statement be dependent on the reported profit of their company. This should immediately throw a red flag for Craig Thorne and his public accounting firm because his audit findings would less likely be trusted since his pay as an auditor have a direct correlation with the client’s success. All three components that composes the Fraud Triangle presents itself in this proposition. An Opportunity to commit fraud, possible Pressure or incentive to commit fraud because of the suggested fee arrangement, and Rationalization or attitude might surface into Craig Thorne’s mind and his judgment for the criminal nature of this act might be clouded due to false visions of affluence. With all of the above factors being said, I would not recommend Mr. Thorne to accept this audit fee arrangement because there is just too much temptation for him to possibly start cooking the books. The fee arrangement needs not be connected to how the financial statements turn out, but instead a fixed amount should be agreed upon by both parties (Allnet Company and Craig Thorne’s public accounting firm). Ethics should always be considered in accounting because money is the root of most evil and accounting does revolve completely around all…...

Case Study Number 1

...1. The changes in the Canadian market for oil pump motors are based around the new pricing of electricity, which now depends on motor size. This has a big impact on oil companies. Not only will they be more likely to purchase lower horse powered motors, but also they will be able to save a vast amount of money by doing this. If a company now decides to buy a 7.5-hp motor as oppose to a 10-hp motor, then they will be saving $38.75 per month and in just 19 months the company will recoup the cost of a new motor. Additionally if the company decides to buy a 5-hp motor as oppose to a 10-hp motor, then the oil company will be able to save $75 per month, and in just 8 months, they will be able to recoup the cost of a new motor. If an oil company were looking to purchase brand new motors then they would be looking at a price of $1,045 per 5-hp motor, $1,200 per 7.5-hp motor, or $1,580 for a 10-hp motor. I would say that this has a hammer affect on the industry for multiple reasons. First of all, this would encourage oil companies like Hamilton to purchase motors with lower horse powers rather than higher power motors (10-hp) not only because of how much savings they will have as listed previously above, but because of the penalization for having over-motoring motors. In addition this could affect the situation going on with Dominion and Hamilton because some of Dominion’s solution alternatives require boosting the starting torque, which could potentially increase the......

...[Your Name] [Teacher’s Name] [Class Name/Period] [Date (January 1, 2013)] [Title] Got a paper to write? Here’s a tip: don’t worry about the formatting, JUST WRITE. Besides, this MLA template for Word has the formatting down for you. Just replace everything in brackets with your information (remember the heading!) and you’re good to go. And, of course, replace this stuff with your content. But read this first! There’s some really important info here. Do yourself a favor and save this template to your computer in a place where you’ll remember it. There are bunch of little nuances in MLA that are really easy to miss – the heading, the spacing, the date format, and those random rules that seem to exist only to annoy you… stop re-writing it each time you go to write a paper, and just whip out this handy template! Wasn’t that easy? By the way, here’s a look at some of the stuff people get wrong a lot. First, the heading at the top right corner of each page. Remove the entire thing if your paper is just one page long; some teachers, though, tell you to just remove the page number. Next come inline citations. You want to “write them in this format, with the period way at the end, assuming you got this from the 5th page of someone’s essay” (Someone 5). Also, if someone includes some random tangent in their quote, you can cut out the junk using ellipses. “I’ve got logorrhea, meaning I tend to ramble on incoherently a lot . . . Now back to the main topic.” Notice that there......

Case Number 1

...Case: Magrec Inc. 1. Place yourself in the role of the manager. What should you do now? After considering what happened, would you change any of your behaviors? I would let a day pass and then request another meeting with Dinah indicating a sincere desire to work through the matter and the need to come to an understanding and agreement of how to work together and with the team moving forward. At that meeting, I would start off and thank Dinah for bringing the Partco matter to my attention. I would communicate with Dinah that I respect her strong feelings and beliefs behind her actions regarding the Partco matter but indicate that if she felt that strongly about the action step I planned to take, that she should have spoken again with me or another manager within our company instead of contacting the customer direct. She should know that by going directly to the customer with the matter the way she did cause a ripple effect in the customer base and consequently, the company has suffered great financial hardship. I would suggest to her that we could have addressed the matter with Partco in a way that would have made them aware of our mistake, offer recompense and still keep our relationship with Partco in tact without affecting the existing customer base. 2. Do you think Dinah was right? Why or why not? If you were she and you had to do it all over again, would you do anything differently? If so, what and why? I do think Dinah was right. Dinah brought Pat the file......

Lot Beyond Numbers

...THERE IS LOT BEYOND NUMBERS With the kind of grit he displayed scoring 66 runs in the CB series final against Australia, in 2007 partnering Sachin Tendulkar, one of the famous chases of India outside sub-continent, he is seen as future prospect. His profound technique is in line of comparison with some of the all-time greats. But he kept surprising people with the numbers. If you happen to miss out on action of cricket for some time and down the line few years later, if we look at Rohit’s cricketing numbers one definitely has to wonder if he is the same guy whom we expected things from. Had there been another of the same name into Indian cricket team? Have a look at the stats and there are dismal. Has two one day double hundreds to his name, the only batsman in cricketing history as of now but a batting average under 38. The cricketing experts back him, the team management backs him. With seven years of International cricket and still not a deserving place in the Indian cricket team says it all about the consistency which he displayed. Then what is that’s more enticing about his game? Is it the Lazy elegance? Is it the aura of ease that hangs in when he bats around. When we say sporting is for entertainment, we get lots of it when he bats. He is definitely not the reliable ones but as an mediocre Indian cricket fan I am looking for something lesser than winning, just entertainment LIFE COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH EASIER A three year old kid doesn’t even have a hint of idea of......

...Elijah Cox October 24, 2015 Short Paper #1: Ethical Dilemma Elijah Cox Professor Brandon Cohen BMGT 110 October 28, 2015 Short Paper #1: Ethical dilemmas and decision making is one of the most important aspects in business. Business owners will be confronted with situations where they must make a decision that could affect their company or individuals in your company. Most of the time there is no right or wrong answers, and most of the time they will be stuck in the middle. What makes ethical dilemmas particularly difficult is that they often involve conflicts between two or more deeply held beliefs. Employers and employees have a responsibility in every ethical situation, it should always start with the organization and how the conduct themselves. Let’s go over an example of an ethical dilemma and how they should deal with this dilemma. Angela’s is faced with an ethical dilemma. She was very helpful to her friend Carla and her nephew by helping him get a position with WellCare USA. Carla is very grateful, and Jaden is as well. Jaden is very happy with his current situation him and his wife are about to put a down payment on their first house. Angela is aware that a decision has been made to transfer that same position that Jaden is hoping to get. This accounting position will likely be moved to Chicago and this position will more than likely be given to someone else due to seniority. As Carla is expressing her appreciation and telling her about......

...#3 After we calculated the weighted average costs of capital (WACC) for each project one can clearly see that the costs of capital are increasing. The increase in costs differs though from project to project. The methodology used assumes that every project has got a different business-risk specific score which then leads to different adjustments on the cost of capital. For example the project “Andres” which is located in the Dominican Republic has got, according to the score, the highest risk. Having a risk score of 3 the adjustment in that case was 15 %. So to the former discount rate of 14.94 % we had to add 15 % leading to a new discount rate of 29.94 %. Other projects, like the “Red Oak” project in the United States had a lower risk and therefore the adjustment was low as well. In this case 3.20 %, leading to a new discount rate of 9.66 %. This is the lowest discount rate for all projects. So the discount rates are ranged in between 9.66 % and 29.94 %. All the results are shown in Table 1. Project | | | WACC | Adjusted WACC | Andres | 14.94 % | 29.94 % | Caracoles | 22.23 % | 31.36 % | Drax | 9.05 % | 16.35 % | Eletropaulo | 14.38 % | 25.26 % | Gener | 8.88 % | 12.63 % | Haripur | 12.93 % | 16.88 % | Kelvin | 9.83 % | 15.18 % | Lal Pir | 15.95 % | 23.08 % | Los Mina | 14.61 % | 27.44 % | OPGC | 10.66 % | 18.11 % | Ottana | 8.65 % | 10.77 % | Red Oak | 6.46 % | 9.66 % | Rivnoblenergo | 15.56 % | 18.58 % | Telasi | 15.86 % | 28.51 % | Uruguaina | 14.10......

...Critical Analysis Gerald Holt English 216 Liberty University Ode to a Lyrical Masterpiece Introduction Creative writing is seen by many as a way to free the expression of the mind, allowing anyone who feels the urge to put their thoughts on paper can do so. There are a large number of people who have lived throughout time that have had their legacy live forever through their writing because they were able to eloquently configure their thoughts in a manner to reach others. Writing in literature has stretched over many long periods since the beginning of time and that could easily be established by taking note that the Bible is the highest selling book of all time. The Bible may have not been written all at one time, but the majority of the works and its authors were mainly from the same time period. Writing has gone through different ages where the majority of writers had the same idea, or style of writing that they wanted to focus on. Some of the ages of writing that had a strong influence on literature as a whole were that of the neoclassical and romantic age of writing. One piece of literature in particular that has been the topic of many discussions is the “Ode to a Nightingale”. This piece of artwork has been under much scrutiny for its lyrical anatomy, and it has also received much praise for its elegance in form. This short poem has given the world of literature much to discuss all the way down to when it was actually written and how many pages it was originally...
