Kieya Smith The strong belief of a company’s president has caused them to lose potential sites for their restaurant and a partnership. Chick-Fil-A’s president, Dan Cathy speaks for his company as a whole when he says, they are against gay marriage. Cities like Boston and Chicago have voiced that they were against the views of Chick-Fil-A on gay marriage. The letter from Boston’s Mayor Thomas Menino and Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emaneul comment, "Chick-fil-A's values are not Chicago values", made it clear that there was no room for that type discrimination in their cities. Also the statement made by Mr. Cathy has caused the Jim Henson Co., to pull its partnership with the restaurant; they had provided the Muppet toys for the kids’ meals. The religious beliefs of this company’s owners have always played a part in the operation of this restaurant. All 1,600 restaurants are closed on Sunday’s, due to the Christian Sabbath. The company even contributed large amounts of money to groups against gay marriage in 2010. I believe that the company has a right to speak on their beliefs. Those against their beliefs also have that right to prevent the company from having sites in their cities, because those beliefs offend the people of their town. The mayors of those cities decided to stand behind their people. I understand the Jim Henson Co., position in deciding that they didn’t want any ties to the statement made by Chick-Fil-A’s president. Though the Jim Henson Co., should have did their homework before agreeing to a partnership with Chick-Fil-A. The Cathy’s, the company’s owners have contributed thousands of dollars to Republicans, that held anti-gay marriage views. Therefore the stand point of the company on gay marriage is told through their actions. The statement made by the president should have come as no bombshell. Gay marriage continues to be an ongoing…...

...Running Head: GAY MARRIAGE 1 Gay Marriage: Good or Bad? Terry Richmond SOC 120 Robert Gala Oct. 1, 2012 GAY MARRIAGE 2 Gay Marriage: Good or Bad? Some organizations will lead you to believe that if same-sex couples are allowed to marry it will further weaken the institution of marriage. However, two people of the same sex should be allowed to marry because it would give them basic rights such as hospital visitation, taxation, and access to family health coverage. Same-sex marriages could bring a huge financial gain to local and state governments in the form of marriage license fees, higher income taxes, and a decrease in state benefit program costs. If we continue to deny marriage to same-sex couples it will send the message that it is ok to discriminate against them. As some well-known anti-gay groups such as Focus on the Family diminish their stance on gay marriage, a core of smaller groups that are mostly religious motivated continue to demonize......

What to Do with Chick-Fil-a?

...In July of 2012, Chick-Fil-A COO Dan Cathy made a public statement praising the institution of marriage between man and woman while condemning those between same sex couples. Such a statement received harsh criticisms from several notable political figures such as Chicago City Counsel member Joe Moreno and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, each of whom hoped to ban Chick-Fil-A from their respective cities. The Jim Henson Company, famous for its creation of “The Muppets”, ended their business relationship with Chick-Fil-A because of their conflicting views on the issue (The Jim Henson Company is pro-gay). Wanting to keep the real reason behind their failed partnership behind closed doors, Chick-Fil-A claimed that they would stop selling toys from the Jim Henson Company because of a choking hazard with the products, although there were never any reported incidents. Many consumers of the company’s food were unaware of where their money was going until just recently as a more disturbing report was uncovered in early August, revealing that the issue went far beyond a first amendment right. Campus Pride, a nonprofit organization aimed to make college environments safer for LGBT students, released a handout titled “5 Simple Facts about Chick-Fil-A”, which exposes the organization’s funding of hate groups that “aggressively work against LGBT people, advocating for their criminalization, psychological abuse or death” as well as its support of groups such as the Eagle Forum, who......

Views on Gay Marriages

...Paper Our philosophy is DILLIAGARA on Gay marriages. Our position on same sex marriages is we are oppose to it. First of all from a religious stand point the bible was oppose to it. God does not love the ideas as it was written in the beginning. You don't do beast of burden and you don't do man to man or woman to woman. Reality check you do not see two female or two male dogs humping each other or any other species. Another issue we have us being heterosexual beings is that in public setting when you see two guys or two women kissing , slobbing or hugging all over each other is just sickening. The con of this is some say they feel that there is a rite of passage when forming a marriage. It is not just to form a union so that the government can give you benefits. It is a gift. I believe it is a gift from God when you find that person that makes your life better. Even if a person doesn’t believe in a higher power like Christianity does, a person’s natural instinct is to love and to be loved. It is normal that being loved makes a person feel good and become more secure. Position one on gay marriages, we have the government trying to appease all parties, we have the gay & lesbian of course want what they want then we have the Church depending on which “God” you serve you will either go to heaven or hell. For god sake the Pope has changed his position saying now that it is alright and you will get a pass to heaven if you gay. But at the end of the day when it is......

Chick-Fil-a

...Chick-fil-A Dustin Grace BUS 360-Belhaven University Over time more and more people have become busier in their everyday lives. Therefore, there is less time to prepare and cook meals for the family. As more parents are on the go, the more they appreciate establishments like fast food restaurants. These types of restaurants are convenient and for the most part inexpensive. Customers can drive up to the drive-thru window to get their food if they don’t want to leave the comfort of their car. They also have the option of going inside and sitting down to enjoy their meal. There are many fast food chains around, but none compare to the phenomenon known as Chick-fil-A. As the company’s name reveals, Chick-fil-A centers their business around chicken. Their slogan that you’ll see on most billboards “Eat Mor Chikin,” is provoking just that. There isn’t a hamburger to be found on the menu. In Chick-fil-A’s case, chicken equals gold and boy do they serve it in many different ways. What genius came up with the novel idea of centering and entire restaurant around chicken? That man would be Truett Cathy. It was the year 1946 when Truett Cathy started his career in the restaurant industry. Mr. Cathy and his brother did not attend a restaurant school and had not knowledge on how to run a restaurant. They both served in the United States Army during World War II. When they came back to the United States after......

Chick-Fil-a as an Anti-Gay/Lesbian Business

...Chick-Fil-A as An Anti-Gay/Lesbian Business Robert LaSerre BCOM/275 July 19, 2012 Eveyln Hollis Chick-Fil-A as an Anti-Gay/Lesbian Business I recently read an article that has apparently caused a huge ruckus in the continuing debate about inclusion of gay and lesbians in the modern United States business world. The President and Chief Operating Officer of Chick-Fil-A, Dan Cathy, who is also the founder’s son, in a recent interview the Baptist Press stated that his company supported the traditional family versus the new same gender family. The part of the article that I disagree with concerns whether or not Mr. Cathy’s statements amount to “hate mongering”.1 CNN was not the first to post this article but their article was the first one that I saw. The article starts off mentioning that the company’s president responded “guilty as charged” when he was asked about his company’s stance regarding traditional family units. The article goes on to talk about how the social media networks are on fire with the news. The article implies that Mr. Cathy, and by proxy, Chick-Fil-A have been hiding their Christian values and hate for years and that it is a relief that they have finally come out in the open showing their discriminatory practices. The statement that Chick-Fil-A has hidden their beliefs until now is a false statement, they have been closed on Sundays for their employees to worship and spend time with their families since 1967, the founding of the......

...Chick-Fil-A Case Study Marketing Principles 3/11/2011 Jamie Roof I very much enjoyed listening to this video case. I had no idea what Chick-Fil-A came from and why it is so good. The only time I have come across the restaurant is when I am shopping. I tend not to eat when I shop so my experience with this company is very minimal. It is very good from what I remember. I am a big foodie and love trying new things. It is very refreshing to see a restaurant start off the way it did with hard work and dedication and then seeing what it has become many years later. I also think it is wonderful to see the founding family still involved in present operations. The entire campaign for Chick-Fil-A gives me a chuckle every time I come across it. The fact the menu is all chicken products with a cow spokesman are very ironic and perfect at the same time. I really like beef, but chicken tends to be a much healthier alternative. I like to know how my food is being prepared and for that reason, I usually steer clear of fast food restaurants. It was very nice to see a company that hand breads its chicken daily in order to preserve freshness and quality. When the VP of Marketing was talking about the chain, I agreed most with his comments regarding the fact consumers will spend money on quality ingredients. With that being said, Chick-Fil-A does have a slightly higher price tag than some other top competitors, but the quality is bar none. I will spend more for quality. I think most...

...1. Describe how Chick-fil-A’s timeline to new grilled chicken followed the four-step control process outlined in the chapter. Step 1: Establish the standards of performance, goals, or targets against which performance is to be evaluated. Chick-fil-A established the standards by holding focus groups to understand what customers wanted in grilled chicken. Their goal was to improve their chicken and their target was to make significant profit with the new grilled chicken. Step 2: Measure actual performance By having a focus group, Chick-fil-A was able measured the actual performance needed to improve their grilled chicken. Chick-fil-A created a prototype grill in a lab and had test tasting. Step 3; Compare actual performance against chosen standards of performance. In step three, Chick–fil-A evaluated hundreds of grilled chicken recipes and narrowed down the flavor profile. Step 4: Evaluate the result and initiate corrective action if the standard is not being achieved. After a seven year process, Chick-fil-A spent over 50 million dollars to create their new grilled chicken. The 50 million dollars included “new automated” grills. Chick-fil-A is evaluating how well in profit their new grilled chicken does versus the 7 percent they were previously making in sales with the chargrilled sandwich. If sales go well, the company is considering adding a second grill and removing fryers. 2. The goal of Chick-fil-A’s new chicken items is to improve the company’s image......

Chick-Fil-a

...Vaughn Jim Maxson BUSN 3513 16 July, 2015 Chick-Fil-A The restaurant I visited was Chick-Fil-A on East Kenosha Street in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. I visited Chick-Fil-A on Monday July 27, 2015 at 3:40 PM. When recording my data I used a pen and paper and I sat in the middle of the restraint so I was able to see everyone as they came inside and ordered their food. Chick-Fil-A on East Kenosha recently opened up a few months ago. When they first opened their doors to the public, they handed every customer that entered in the restraint gift cards for a free breakfast sandwich. That was the first time I have ever seen a fast food restraint do something like that for their customers. Chick-Fil-A is very considerate of their customers. The Chick-Fil-A foundation was founded to serve as the generous arm of Chick-Fil-A, Inc., dedicated to youth and education and community leadership. In 2014, Chick-Fil-A donated a million dollars to twenty five organizations across the nation through the inaugural True Inspiration Awards for their commitment to giving back to their communities (About Chick-Fil-A). Chick-Fil-A is also very committed to their employees so they offer their employees a scholarship opportunity to their employees so that they can further their education if they choose to do so. It known as the Leadership Scholarship Program. No other company in terms of size does as much in the scholarship area as Chick-fil-A (Chick-Fil-A Press Release). The company awarded......

How My View on Gay Marriage Changed

... Same-sex marriage in the USA In the summer of 2012, gay marriage was a steaming hot topic of discussion in the United States. The right of marriage between two men or two women is one of the most controversial debates in the history of America. On several locations around the world, gay marriage is a legal act. But should homosexuals have the same right as “normal” people when it comes to marriage? A lot of different reasons why homosexuals should not have the right to get married have occurred in this discussion. One of the reasons why homosexuals should not have the right to get married, according to American law and point of view is, that if its possible by society, a child has the right to be taken care of by the parents who gave them life. David Blankenhorn, a publisher in the magazine “The New York Times” and author of the book “The future of marriage”, took a stand in this debate in a Californian court where he referred to a piece of law by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Children, which guarantees children this exact right. He starts out saying that he once opposed gay marriage on simple principles such as lack of biological ability to create a child, and that the child has the right to be raised by those individuals that committed to each other. Once this is explained, Blankenhorn goes on to say that he is now a marriage advocate, and that it was time for him to change his view on gay marriage. Blankenhorn believes that marriage between......

Chick-Fil-a Chicken with Side of God

...Chick-Fil-A Selling Chicken with a side of GOD A Positive Ethical Organization Chasity Wilson 10-13-2015   Chick-fil-A: Selling Chicken with a side of GOD WHAT DISTINGUISHES AN ETHICAL COMPANY? We as Americans tend to focus on companies unethical behavior, lapses of judgement, corporate misconduct or the methods corporations may use to hide unethical business practices from the public view this process leads to national scrutiny. We seldom recognize an organization that displays positive-intentional ethic behaviors that are defined as acceptable by the American people. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the ethical standards of the fast food chain Chick-Fil-A and determine if the company establishes a code of ethics. The Webster Dictionary defines ethics as following accepted rules of personal and professional behavior. It is prescribed philosophy dealing with questions of what is good and what is bad combined with moral duty and obligation, the principles of moral behavior governing an individual or group. By implementing a standard of ethical behavior, as a business, the restaurant chain Chick-Fil-A in my opinion exemplifies a living code of ethics as a cognitive, affective, and behavior manifestation of an ethical organization. In your opinion has Chick-Fil-A set a new standard for a positive ethical organization and does the concept of ethics and integrity have a deeper meaning that what the dictionary definition provides? Chick-fil-A......

How My View on Gay Marriage Changed

...How My View on Gay Marriage Changed “Marriage is how society recognizes and protects this right. Marriage is the planet’s only institution whose core purpose is to unite the biological, social and legal components of parenthood into one lasting bond. Marriage says to a child: The man and the woman whose sexual union made you will also be there to love and raise you. In this sense, marriage is a gift that society bestows on its children.” (P. 1, LL. 10-15) Gay marriage is a big topic of discussion in US and all over the world – should homosexuals have the same right and freedom as normal people, when it comes to marriage? Should gay marriage be legalized nationwide? Should everyone be equal or is it unnatural? The right of a marriage for lesbian couples or gay couples is one of the most controversial discussions and debates all over the world. In USA, gay marriage is even a legal act. David Blankenhorn made a book in 2007 called “The Future of Marriage”. He took a stand against gay marriage but as a marriage advocate he has now learned to accept gay marriage and emphasize all the good thinks that it can do. “I’m straight. I want to know what’s so wrong about it? It’s just to people who are in love, that’s all.” In one way gay marriage should be legalized nationwide. Gay couples should just have the same right to marry as heterosexual couples. It is like discrimination to not let gay couples getting marriage just to follow our equality in our country. People need to...

Chick-Fil-a International?

...Week 4 Assignment 1 Chick-fil-A International? Abstract Chick fil-A has developed into a very successful fast food chain in the United States, but this fast food company operates differently than almost any company, regardless of size. The fact that Chick-fil-A is a multi-billion dollar company makes the way that they operate domestically seem nearly impossible. Chick-fil-A’s operations and hiring methods do not come without controversy, however. We’ll take a look into their operations more closely as well as some controversy that surrounds the Chick-fil-A organization and some struggles Chick-fil-A will face as they plan to expand into the global market. History of the Company To fully explore the Chick-fil-A company, one has to develop a better understanding of the structure of the company. Chick-fil-A began in its infancy in 1946 when S. Truett Cathy opened a restaurant called “The Dwarf Grill” in Hapeville, GA. This is where Cathy allegedly invented the original boneless chicken sandwich. After several years of operating a successful restaurant in Hapeville, Cathy decided to begin branching out in the early 1960’s when he founded Chick-fil-A, Inc., which led to the first Chick-fil-A restaurant opening in 1967 in a mall in Atlanta. Since that time, Chick-fil-A has grown to over 1,500 company stores (note the intentional omission of the word “Franchises”) with annual revenues approaching $3.5 billion. Chick-fil-A has done this in a very unconventional way, as......
