Competencies and Career Interest Profiler

Completing the competencies for this assignment I learned that my top three competencies are adapting to change, cooperating, and adhering to values. My two lowest competencies were strategizing and organizing. Knowing theses personal competencies is important to the way that I can improve my critical thinking skills because it gives me a base outline of the areas that I should be attentive to. For example, one of my strengths is adapting to change. I feel that it is important for people to remain open minded when looking at a subject critically. Many arguments can be made for something that are good valid agreements, but if someone is close-minded then there would be a lot at loss for both sides of the argument.
My second strength was cooperating. Being able to cooperate in a group is important. Respecting the views of others allows there to be a foundation on which each member will be able to speak freely of their views. Even though there are members of the team that may disagree with other’s opinion, it is important to respect their own opinions. This will help lead the team to more powerful debate when both sides are able to speak feely of the views and opinions.
Looking at the lowest compentcies ratings, strategizing was one that surprised me the most and definitely one that I feel is very important when improving critical thinking skills. When setting up an argument, there must be a strategy. Taking resources, data, and facts into an argument requires a level of strategy in order to make them fit into the argument. Alongside this was my second weakest which was organizing. The two them, in my opinion, go together because the work must be organized, thoughts truly drawn, and arguments in order. With the organization the argument would have a…...

...Career Plan Building Activity: Competencies and Career Interests Profiler My Results I had five bars in innovating, which, four bars for strategizing, adapting to change, and cooperating. I had three bars each in researching and coping with pressure. There was no surprise for most of the results except for the researching one, I love to do research and ask questions. The five bars for innovating I think come from the fact that I hate doing things the way they “have always been done”. Dad always said, “If you want to find the quickest and most efficient way to get something done, find a lazy person or someone who already has plans to do it”( J.W. Stacey, personal communication). They will find the easiest, quickest way of achieving it. I also like to do things my way, so I will adjust things to my way. Understanding My Own Personal Competencies Understand my own competencies will help me choose a not only a career but where I might want to go to pursue said career and the type of work place environment I will need to seek out to be at my best. Knowing my own strengths will help me to decide what areas about the way I think and do things that I need to focus on and improve such as one of my least barred results, which were coping with stress. I can also use this information to even better improve where I am already with innovating, hence not only improving the lower scored items but emphasizing the strengths I already have. According to......

Career Profiler

...exercise, I had to complete the Career interest’s profiler and the competencies part as well. The profiler section stated that I am artistic, enterprising and investigative. I would have to agree with the findings of the test. These traits can be useful in critical thinking. In most situations, being able to investigate all sides of the situation or argument can help come to a resolution to the issue. The artistic trait can help with brainstorming or coming up with ideas towards a solution to a problem. Another reason understanding our personal competencies will help to improve my critical thinking skill is that I can analyze my own skills and which ones will help in the current situation. The profiler also said I’m enterprising. Not sure how my business skills or desire to open a business would help critically thinking unless the situation specifically dealt with that field came up. How can knowing your competencies help you to evaluate arguments? The same goes for critical thinking and arguments when it comes to our competencies. Using our strengths, or at least knowing which ones we excel at, can help us in arguments. We have to analyze what we are trying to have our end result be so we use what traits are going to better help us with that achievement. We can also use our competencies to try to defuse a situation before it crosses into the plane of an argument. There can be many different levels or degree of arguments but using our competencies we can stop it......

Believing in the person making the claim or believing the actual claim. There is some detective work involved, if there is a party of interest that will make a profit by spreading inconsistent information, it can involve risk taking but doing the research and finding a reliable source will make better critical decisions. Career competencies can help evaluate arguments by applying expertise theoretically and practical to distinguish from someone that is exaggerating the truth and trying to persuade them to accept they claim they are making without any relevant facts. By understanding what your abilities are you are able to utilize your critical thinking skills. For example, some companies expect their employees to reach a certain level of competency at the end of their training. This is because developing or capitalizing on your core competencies entails learning and thoroughly understanding the job at hand. Based on my career aptitude test, my results show that scheduling; material recording and law would be a good fit for me. I am an efficient communicator, detail oriented and I take the time to research what I am doing. Because of these inclinations/competencies, I can have a more profound understanding of what I am doing in contrast to someone who may not be good at these things. It is said that capitalizing your strengths is more important than working on your weaknesses. Knowing your competencies can help you evaluate arguments through understanding every aspect of what you are doing.
