Did your mom ever tell you to not pet stray dogs? Well mine did of course, and I listened just as well as any 4 year old would. I was a very hard headed kid at that age, and I never listened to what I was told. We lived in a small town 200 miles west of Middlin, Texas; it was a quiet town with a population around 1,000 people. If you’ve ever been to Texas then you know that it’s about 90% desert, it’s a dry and dusty place. Stray dogs are everywhere be aware and whatever you do don’t pet stray dogs. It was the summer of 1991 in Middlen, Texas the temperature was around 100 degrees. I was soaked from head to toe with sweat from ridding my dirt bike all day. I had gotten a 50cc Suzuki dirt bike from my dad just a year prior and I was loving it. I rode my dirt bike all summer long that year. There was a pit not too far from my house that I could ride in that had some whoop-de-woops, and some jumps. This pit was huge, I mean it was a giant pit, it looked like a comet had struck the earth it was so big. I spent what seemed to be all day at the pit riding my dirt bike. When I finally got home I decided to cool off in the sprinklers, I ran into the house as fast as I possibly could to change clothes. As I got into the house I yelled Mom! Can I go outside and play in the sprinkler, she said yes but I had to eat supper first Dang it, I said under my breath as I continued down the long hallway. When I got to my room I looked everywhere for my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles swimming trucks, they were my favorite.

I looked in all of my draws, under my bed, and in the hamper but I just couldn’t find them any ware, so I settled for my old Spiderman ones in my drawer. I got changed, ran back down the hall and into the kitchen where my mother was cooking dinner, I was thinking it was spaghetti because I could smell the tomato sauce. When I got to the kitchen I…...

Where Did You Get Your Morals Form

...Where Did You Get Your Morals From? Morals, this is something that is supposed to define the actions, perceptions, and persuasion of the human existence. Google defines morality as principles concerning the distinction between good or bad and right or wrong. I do believe that some types of morality come at a standard in human nature, but to only select people. For the majority it’s a combination of what was instilled through parenting and what we acquired through our own observations in growing and learning. Growing up, there were several family members that helped raised me. Like all parental figures in our life there are some lessons and morals that were taken from those family members. The majority of morals that I have acquired, derived from my grandmother, grandfather, uncle and mom. There are also morals that I have acquired from living and observing actions and results, in which I am still learning. We had steps, rules, and procedures that needed to be followed during throughout the household. They started from the way that we spoke down to what could be touched during different times of the day. The parental figures set a lot of rules and standards in our household. Foods needed to match the time of the day. Such as; cereals and eggs in the morning, sandwiches for lunch, and whatever was cooked in the evening was for dinner. For the kids permission had to be requested to go outside and the destination or area of play had to be stated so that they...

A Dog for a Pet

...A multi-purpose pet I wanted to inform you that I am planning to adopt a pet in the near future. I’ve considered the various pets available for adoption and have come to the conclusion that adopting a dog would be the best choice for both you and me. I will explain a few of the reasons that I feel adopting a dog is our best choice; Dogs are very loyal to humans, they teach children responsibility, and will help protect our family and homes from criminals. The loyalty of a dog is unsurpassed by any other type of pet. Dogs are often referred to as, “Man’s best friend.” Throughout the world, dogs are used to help people with disabilities, assist police in dangerous law enforcement, and provide companionship to patients recovering from serious health issues. Dogs continuously display their loyalty to humans. As a child, I remember spending hours on end with my dog, Rango. No matter how down or lonely I may have been at times, Rango was always willing and available to play with me. He was my dog and I was responsible for making sure that he was properly fed and well taken care of. Looking back, I realize the sense of responsibility that I gained from having a dog. Now, as a Father, I would like for my children to have a dog, so that they too can learn to be responsible during their childhood. There are few feelings greater than knowing that your family and home are safe. A dog’s natural instincts make them great “security guards”. Their sense of smell and hearing are...

Your Mom

...When I started school, it felt like I was out of place. I could tell that I was different but, could not explain why. In my mind a lot of what they taught us seemed useless. And none of what they taught kept my attention long enough; I was not able concentrate on one thing at a time. It just seemed that everything about school I hated. I could not help the way I thought about school. The teachers made it worse; they did not care about the students there. I felt like I was doing the same thing every day. So eventually I decided to not do my work. After a while the teacher decided to put me behind a small wall secluded from the class. It was a couple of weeks before I decided I did not want to go to school any more. Then my mom found out what the teacher was doing, it did not go over well. I’m pretty sure the principle was scared shit less. Needless to say I was not behind the wall any more. I can say I had good friends while I went there. One day I had a major migraine, everyone thought I was just faking it but one of my friends decided to walk me to the nurse. At the time the teacher was not in the class room, but on the way to the nurse she told us to go back. I don’t remember much after that. A couple of years later we had a new school in Wellsville. Same teachers unfortunately and the same principle, I was always told that he did not like kids. I had been late a lot due to the school being in a new area, walking there was the only choice I had. Apparently the teacher...

The Lady with a Pet Dog

...possesions. And many others consider finding true love the ultimate happiness. Everyone is on their spiritual quest to find it, and sometimes, when they find happiness they do not know how to handle it. In Anton Chekov’s short story “The Lady with the Pet Dog,” Chekov let’s us into the mind of the character Dmitry Gurov as he seeks to compensate his unhappy life in his many affairs with women. In one of his many affairs with Anna Sergeyevna we see how Dmitry changes his views and attitude as he falls in love. In the beginning of “The Lady with the Pet Dog,” the character Dmitry Gurov is an unhappy narcissistic and a misogynist who is easily bored with women and his lover Anna Sergeyevna. By the end of the story, however, he changes his views of Anna when he realizes he loves her. Before meeting Anna, Dmitry is displayed in an unflattering manner. He is very unhappy with his life and marriage even though his wife was described as “a tall, erect woman with dark eyebrows, stately and dignified and, as she said of herself, intellectual” (156). She seemed like a great woman with beauty and intelligence, yet, he was still dissatisfied, “he privately considered her of limited intelligence, narrow-minded, dowdy, was afraid of her, and did not like to be home” (156). Dmitry is very critical of his wife he turns all her attributes into negative qualities. Dmitry’s harsh criticism of his wife further shows his dissatisfaction with himself. He cannot acknowledge her qualities......

3 Most Damaging Words You Can Tell Your Son

...3 Most Damaging Words you can tell your Son Rationale In our current unit, we are focused on the topic of “Representation of Masculinity in the media” and how it is portrayed much differently to what it actually is. I will be writing as an analyst but also a parent who has gone through this time of where masculinity is the key to your success. Through this written task, the aim is to inform the readers “3 most damaging words you can tell your son” and it how it affects the children. The intended audience for this textual analysis would be parents who try and tell their children to grow up and stop whining. This type of analysis could be found online particularly on blogs that have a direct link to the video. In my written task, logos is the most effective stylistic device. For example, the statement “90% of students wrote pain and anger,” as a feeling they have oppressed due to societies influence on them. This statement makes the reader aware of the troubles they are putting their children though in order to raise them, as society wants them to turn out, engaging them to think of their past encounters with their children. The stimulus text for this piece was a three minute video titled “the 3 most damaging word to tell your son,” as it was a direct relationship with our current unit of representation of masculinity in the media. Another stimulus text that I looked at was a blog site to find the conventions into writing a blog article. Word Count – 253......

Did You Bring Your Ethics to Work Today?

...Did you bring your ethics to work today? Think you are a person of integrity and that you bring your highest standards of ethics to your workplace each day? Despite hundreds of pages of policies, codes of ethics, codes of conduct, organizational values, and carefully defined work environments, company cultures, lapses in workplace ethics occur every day. Lapses in workplace ethics result from inappropriate officer behavior such as insider stock trading, expense account fraud, sexual harassment, and involvement in conflicts of interest. Lapses in workplace ethics do not need to rise to that level to impact the workplace environment you provide for employees though. Lapses in workplace ethics can occur because of simple issues such as toilet paper, copy machines, and lunch signup lists. In a nationally important workplace ethics case, Hewlett-Packard company's, successful CEO, Mark Hurd, (now former H-P CEO), became embroiled in workplace ethics issues. I have no insider knowledge, but the public statement from the company indicated that Mr. Hurd left because he violated the company’s expected standards of conduct. Cathie Lesjak, H-P's chief financial officer, who was appointed interim CEO until the company can find a permanent replacement for Mr. Hurd, asked employees “to remain ‘focused’ and said ‘Mark had failed to disclose a close personal relationship he had with the contractor that constituted a conflict of interest, failed to maintain accurate expense reports,...

Why Dogs Make the Best Pets

...Dogs Make the Best Pets Dogs come in all shapes and sizes. From tea cup size to giant size, from long hair to short hair and even hairless. With all the different breeds of dogs there is a variety of behavior and personalities and a variety of looks. But with all this variety there is one thing that stays constant – the love and companionship a dog gives. Regardless of the type of dog you chose your little furry friend will become your best friend, your family and if you let them will become part of your heart. There is no other animal that would make a better pet than a dog, no other pet provides more unconditional love and affection, and provides more social interaction and companionship than a dog. A dog expresses love and affection in so many ways, from the affectionate licks on our face, the intimate wagging of their tails, to their hugs when you come home. I cannot think of another species in the universe other than a dog that is capable of expressing their unconditional love and unwavering loyalty. When you think of a pet the two obvious choices that come to mind are a dog or a cat. Some people may try to argue that a cat is a better pet, but a cat does not greet you at the door like a dog, nor is a cat as affectionate as a dog. A cat is more independent than a dog, they tend to come around when they need something where a dog actually identifies with their owners mood. My dog can actually sense my mood and react accordingly; when I am sick or sad my dogs......

Dogs think you’re the best person in the world even if you are grumpy, when you come home from school or work your Dogs will be there licking your face and jumping around and they can’t wait to see you, while cats don’t notice if you are there or not as long as they get their food. 10. 10.
