Health Care Coverage for Non-Us Citizens

... Lack of health care coverage is a serious issue for the citizens of the United States. Imagine if you were a non-citizen, or even worse, an illegal immigrant to this country. In 2005, the United States population included 36 million foreign-born residents (Lee & Choi, 2009). In this same time, non-citizens were 1.6 times less likely to access health care compared to the citizens (Lee & Choi, 2009). Non-citizen refers to foreign-born people legally in the United States, and follow the same rules and rights as US Citizens, but do not have the right to participate in political issues (Lee & Choi, 2009). Illegal immigrants will describe persons who have entered this country without proper authority or who no longer have a valid visa (Lee & Choi, 2009). The effects of health care, or the lack of health care, affect persons in the United States regardless of status of citizenship. Disease and accidental injury do not discriminate based on citizenship, nationality or financial class. Treatment of disease and injury currently does vary greatly. Access to Health Care There is a shortage of primary care physicians and specialists across this country, and this provides the flexibility of these provides to choose who to provide care to in the physician office. Private physicians may refuse to treat patients who have Medicaid or cannot pay to time of service. Even persons with health insurance may find......

Financing Health Care in the Us

...Financing Health Care in the U.S. Tim Johnson HCCUniversity NURS 3006 Section 02, The Context of Healthcare Delivery Nov 24, 2013 Financing Health Care in the U.S. Financing healthcare in the U. S. continues to be a major concern, and going forward it could become a monsoon. There are many methods available to finance healthcare in this country, and some people have access to several methods. However, a large percentage does not have access to any methods, and as a result they are uninsured. Among the methods used to finance healthcare are private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid. We will discuss Medicare, and some of the issues the federal government is facing with rising health care cost. Money and how to pay for things are always at the forefront of the problems. Unlike other healthcare funding issues Medicaid is funded totally by the federal government. Private insurance is funded by employers, employees and private citizens. Medicaid is funded 2/3 by the federal government and 1/3 by the state government. Medicare is currently funded by tax payers and the federal income tax. The population is getting older, and many baby boomers are nearing 65 years of age and will be eligible for Medicare. If the current trend continues many experts believe the system will be bankrupt within 10 years. As a result, the government will have to increase the federal income tax, or find a way to reduce cost. One of the main issues is that curtailing cost normally......

Health Care in the Us-a System or Not

...Health care in the US-a system or not Angela Stafford University of Phoenix Health care organizations and delivery systems HCS/531 Russell Arenz III November 08, 2010 Health care in the US-a system or not A system is defined by Mosby's medical dictionary as "a group of interacting, interrelated, or interdependent elements forming a complex whole" (Mosby's 2009). Health care system is defined as "the complete network of agencies, facilities, and all providers of health care in a specified geographic area" (Ginsbury, Doherty, Ralston, & Senkeeto, 2008, p. 55). To make a system complete there has to be parts that bring it together. This paper will explore some of the components of a health care system, fundamental goals of a system and whether or not these components and goals interact with each other to form a whole. How medical treatment is arranged, financed and delivered are components of a healthcare system. Treatment is organized by the providers that offer the treatment and whether the providers are practicing in private practice, in small or large groups, or in corporate associations. Financing treatment includes any entity involved in payment of treatment services including the individual who requires the service or any type of insurance agency. Treatment delivery refers to the place treatment is provided, for example, rural or urban locations and inpatient or outpatient settings. Three fundamental objectives of a health care system include...

The Future Challenges Facing Health Care in the Us

...The Future Challenges Facing Health Care in the United States Gregrey McDaniel Professor: Manuel Johnican, PhD Strayer University HSA 500 11 June 2011 Identify and describe at least three of the most difficult issues facing health care in the United States today. One of the most difficult issues facing the United States health care system is combating diseases. Even with mortality rates continuing to decrease and with life expectancy rates continuing to increase, these trends are masking concerns with specific diseases, injuries, and population groups. The diseases that still give us a formidable challenge include many varieties of cancer, some kinds of infectious diseases, and influenza. The second difficult issue is health disparities. These disparities are widespread. Differences in how patients receive treatment and the access to treatment are measurable through financial, physical, and attitudinal indicators. Disparities affect all groups of our population. These disparities are related to race, sex, language, genetics, age, and income. We all could benefit from a more efficient system which removes or minimalizes disparities. The third difficult issue facing the health care system in the United States is paying for health care. In the United States, we have had insurance as the biggest payer of health care for many years. There has been evolution in the types of insurance and how they manage aspects of the business. Insurance companies have been......

Health Care Issues in the Us

...Health Services Organization Assignment #1, Health Care issues in the United States Dr. Rashida Biggs Alexander Johnson October 20, 2011 Explain how health is affected by behaviors, economics, and social structure. Imagine a world where no one smokes cigarettes. This would be an amazing phenomenon due to not only a major economic factor but the health concerns that would not be an issue. Smoking is a behavior issue that has been argued since smoking ever was introduced. This behavior began more than 400 years ago (Schuman, MD) and has continued to be a huge health concern worldwide. There is historical data on tobacco use in the United States through the US Department of Agriculture with dates as early as the 1880’s to support the consumption by US citizens. With such a behavioral issue, the health care will always have a concern due to the effects of cigarette smoke and other tobacco related products. Health issues like cancer and cardiovascular diseases are directly related to this behavior. Although the rates of the diseases listed have shown somewhat of a decline, the health issues still remain and will for some time. Alcohol and illicit drug use are other behaviors that effect the health of Americans. When citizens use drugs, alcohol or tobacco, there are behaviors that are attributed to the use of such items that effect the health of individuals. These behaviors also play a role economically in the US. It has been studied that the behaviors discussed are......
