Cis207 - How Information Is Used and How It Flows in an Organization

...How Information Is Used and How It Flows In an Organization Student’s Name Class Title Due Date Instructor’s Name How Information Is Used and How It Flows In an Organization Information flows in different directions and different means: formally and informally, downward, upward and even horizontally through various levels. According to Opara, “information is the life blood of modern organizations” (Opara, 2003). Without “information”, organizations would most likely collapse as information is required to run the day-to-day doings of a business. Olowu states that “information entails data, facts, imaginations, ideas, opinions and cultural values in a variety of media which includes print, audio-visual materials and electronic processes” (Olowu, 2004). This shows how information flows within and between cultural groups. This represents an important part of “alternative conceptualization” (Nissen, 2002), which focuses on transaction (e.g. data to information, information to knowledge). This means data is necessary to produce information which, in turn, is necessary for creating knowledge that is conveyed (e.g. via paper, network, speech and observable action). And C.C. Aguolu feels that information is “the message of human experience” (Aguolu, 2002); rather, what is basically a stimulus assumes a response in the receiver, and possesses a response itself. This message can be made in any medium, in any language or in any subject. Some psychologists have even described...

Analyse from a Management Information System Perspective, How Airasia 's Online System Has Brought Them Its Competitive Advantge

...ASSIGNMENT ON MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM Air Asia has passengers that have reached more than 50 million passengers by now. This achievement s would not have been possible if not through IT technology, management and organization combined effort. Unlike MAS that provided costly but quality service, Air Asia provides quality and cheap service. These actions are accomplished not just through the strategic steps undertaken by Air Asia’s management but by the right use of information system in its organization. The online ticket reservation system is one example of how information system is applied with technology to achieve its goal of its organization. The online sales are no longer done through agents but through websites in the internet and therefore its easy and accessed worldwide. The number of clients increased in huge number due to easy access through the websites as transactions are done online. The operational management level to the executive level never lose out in keeping their communication intact. The information system manager have kept track by giving the right information to the executive and decision support officers and at the same time making sure of the cheap cost of the flight as well which is not easy to do at this competitive age. Air Asia can use management information system in other areas as well. It can employ both traditional as well as IT technology to further improve its services. Online Health Information Seeking Behavior

...Review Test Construction Project Online Health Information Seeking Behavior The purpose of this literature review is to briefly discuss the existing literature about online health information-seeking behavior. For the purpose of this particular research we will focus on these behaviors by adults only and from the perspective the Health consumer. Other studies have looked at these behaviors in adolescents, who happen to have very different reasons for internet health information seeking than the adult demographic. And some studies have also considered the perspective of the health professional. But I will touch only briefly on this perspective for my research. According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (2011), since the introduction of the World Wide Web in the early nineties, there has been a building interest in the internet as a communication tool for health-related information.” Given the overall general lean of society towards technology based mediums for a majority of communication endeavors, this trend towards online health information seeking behavior seems inevitable. This provides a means for the health consumer to be proactive about their health and become more educated about health matters. Ybarra and Suman (2006) found that proactive patients who ask the right questions “may hasten the diagnosis and treatment process.” The primary purpose of my research is to document the prevalence of health information seeking behavior on the......

How Information Is Used

...How Information Is Used How Information Is Used The role of an organization is to collect and distribute information. No matter the type of business or organization, information is a key component in its success. Each portion of an organization: management, billing, etc. information needs to be provided to each one separately, as well as information that needs to be shared. Information is considered to be what is known beyond random chance predictions. Information must surprise and reduce the uncertainty from recipient. In this day in age, computers and information processing are everywhere. The use of computers influences when decisions are made, as well as what decisions are to be made. The use of computers also affects how a business is organized, and how an employee feels about their job. Basically, information processing and computing can be pervasive. Information in an organization flows in two major ways: Vertically; where the information flows up and down between managers and CEO’s, General Managers, etc. Information also flows horizontally, where the information is shared between each department in the organization. A great example of this would be in department stores; each department may have their own marketing, and sales; however, they do need to share their information to avoid any confusion. In my line of work, the proper use of information and how it flows, is extremely important; Life or death important. Each morning I head to my sister-in-laws......

How to Be a Successful Online Student

...Introduction Signing up for college is new and exciting for anyone who is planning to attend. There is a lot of decisions to make regarding what college to attend, what degree to strive for and in the technical world of today, a student needs to decide if the online structure will work for them. Proverbs 1:5 says “Let the wise listen and add to their learning and let the discerning get guidance” (NIV). Knowledge is power and I believe God wants us to pray and search for information about the college we are supposed to attend and most importantly if we are able to attend online. Ecclesiastes 10:10 states, “If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success”(NIV). When choosing to go to college online, the student must have strong personal and learning characteristics along with certain factors that will help make the online student successful. Summary The article that I chose to read was ‘Student Preparation For Distance Education’, by Mark Taormino. It was very enlightening and it talked about some great points to achieve successfulness with online learning. One of the points that the article talked about was having a strong personal characteristic such as integrity and to be motivated. The definition for integrity is to be honest and fair and to be complete or whole. Integrity is one of the major keys while on this journey. It’s not just making sure you avoid plagiarism or cheating, but keeping your nose the......

How Triangulation Ensures Validity and Reliability in Social Science Research

...How triangulation Ensures Validity and Reliability in Social Science Research 1.0 Introduction Triangulation has been defined as the use of more than one approach to the investigation of a research question in order to augment confidence in the findings (Bryman, 2004). For Yeasmin & Rahman, (2012) triangulation is a process of verification that increases validity by incorporating several viewpoints and methods. When applied in the social sciences, it refers to the combination of two or more theories, data sources, methods or investigators in one study of a single phenomenon to converge on a single construct, and can be employed in both quantitative (validation) and qualitative (inquiry) studies. This paper provides a historical background and the development of triangulation as a concept and its application. The paper also presents an overview of various concepts linked to triangulation as applied in social research Finally the paper discusses the benefits and challenges of triangulation offering some relevant examples that guide in understanding the concept. 2.0 Background of Triangulation Originally triangulation was a method used to determine the location of a fixed point based on the laws of trigonometry. The laws state that if one side and two angles of a triangle are known, the other two sides and angle of that triangle can be calculated. Triangulation though not defined was used in the early civilizations of the ancient Egypt and......

How Information Is Used and How It Flows in an Organization

...IT/205 | How information is used and how it flows in an organization | Mat Waer | How information is used and how it flows in an organization Before we can understand how information flows through a functioning business we need to understand the meaning of information. Information is defined on google as facts provided or learned about something or someone (Define Information). So, if we plug that definition into the original question Ask.com defines it as “Information is constantly flowing through organizations and acts as the blood of the company. When information is no longer allowed to flow through an organization, the organization will eventually begin to collapse.”("What Is Information Flow In An Organization?", 2015) Now, for the information to function correctly there needs to be a hierarchy from where the information comes from. I currently am an Executive Chef for a restaurant group here in Portland, Oregon. There are currently 15 restaurants, 3 bakeries and 1 fine dining restaurant with in the company. In order to be successful we need to have very defined path that information that flows with in our organization. First we have the Owner (Tracy) she oversees the entire flow of the business. Not so much the day to day but where the business flow thru the market, and the overall vision of the business. Then we have the CEO (Felix) he is the decision maker and leader of the company. Whenever control/systems change or need moved around he is the one...
