Wikipedia ([pic]i/ˌwɪkɨˈpiːdiə/ or [pic]i/ˌwɪkiˈpiːdiə/ wik-i-pee-dee-ə) is a collaboratively edited, multilingual, free Internet encyclopedia supported by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation. Its 24 million articles, over 4.1 million in the English Wikipedia alone, are written collaboratively by volunteers around the world. Almost all of its articles can be edited by anyone with access to the site,[4] and it has about 100,000 active contributors.[5][6] As of February 2013, there are editions of Wikipedia in 285 languages. It has become the largest and most popular general reference work on the Internet,[7][8][9][10][11] ranking sixth globally among all websites on Alexa and having an estimated 365 million readers worldwide.[7][12]

Wikipedia was launched on January 15, 2001, by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger.[13] Sanger coined the name Wikipedia,[14] which is a portmanteauof wiki (a type of collaborative website, from the Hawaiian word wiki, meaning "quick")[15] and encyclopedia. Wikipedia's departure from the expert-driven style of encyclopedia building and the presence of a large body of unacademic content have received extensive attention in print media. In 2006,Time magazine recognized Wikipedia's participation in the rapid growth of online collaboration and interaction by millions of people around the world, in addition to YouTube, MySpace, and Facebook.[16] Wikipedia has also been praised as a news source due to articles related to breaking news often being rapidly updated.[17][18][19]

The open nature of Wikipedia has led to various concerns, such as the quality of writing,[20] the amount of vandalism[21][22] and the accuracy of information. Some articles contain unverified or inconsistent information,[23] though a 2005 investigation in Nature showed that the science articles they compared came close to the level of accuracy of Encyclopædia…...

Intro to Networking

...NT-1210 Intro to Networking 05/30/2012 CH 10-11 Research Paper Essay In the evolution of smart phones the first use of text messaging did not take place until 1992 in England, and this was from a computer to a cell phone. The first cell phone to cell phone text happened in 1993 in Finland, which during this period was leading the cell phone technology race, and in 2000 was the first to offer mobile news services. In this time period of the early 2g (second generation) and 2.5g networks mobile providers started to pop up everywhere making communications more reliable. In 2001 the 3g network was introduced and with this technology came the ability to send pictures and stream video. Mobile providers started to offer media content such as ringtones, news, weather, jokes, music and videos, which in 2007 reached 31 billion in sales and outpaced computer internet sales. In the business aspect of this technology, all of this is the icing on the cake. The ability to keep in touch with your employees at any time or location is priceless. Gone are the days of the travelling salesperson with only the information that was current when they began their journey. Changes to information or current events can be sent immediately, lost files can be sent, up to date sales figures can be accessed and video conferencing is possible. A new application being researched for business use is Unified Messaging, a system that offers access to E-mail, voice and fax messages though a unified......

Experimented with supernormal stimuli such as giant eggs or dummy bird beaks that could release the fixed action patterns more powerfully than the natural objects for which the behaviors were adapted. He shared a Nobel Prize in 1973 with Karl von Frisch and Niko Tinbergen in the area of Physiology or Medicine. Most of his work surrounding ethology was done between 1949 and his death in 1989. Niko Tinbergen- He is well known for developing the four questions he believed should be asked about any animal behavior regarding Proximate and Ultimate Mechanisms. A Major portion of his research surrounded supernormal stimuli and he was known for collaborating with Konrad Lorenz based around the fact that one could build an artificial stimulus more effective than the original stimulus. The majority of his work was done in the 1960’s and early 1970’s. Karl Von Frisch- An Australian ethologist whose work centered around the sensory perceptions of European honey bees. Intro of the Mac

...Amanda Perry Module 1: Intro of the MAC CCT 271 August 21, 2014 Steve Jobs was born on February 24, 1955 in Los Altos, California. Steve Wozniak was born on August 11, 1950 in San Jose, California (www.biography.com/stevewozniak). The pair founded Apple Computers Inc. on April 1, 1976 with Ronald Wayne. They were responsible for releasing some of the first personal computers on the market. Jobs and Wozniak partnered together to invent the Apple I computer in 1976. They were hoping to sell their first computer to their fellow members in the Homebrew Computer Club (www.biography.com/stevejobs). The Homebrew Computer Club was a computer hobbyist group out of Silicon Valley, California, and was founded by Gordon French in 1975. The group met together twice a week to exchange different ideas about computers and how to make them more accessible to people. The group consisted of many computer enthusiasts that later became high profiled hackers and computer entrepreneurs like Jobs and Wozniak (www.princeton.edu/homebrewcomputerclub). As time went on, the two continued to work on building bigger and better things like the LISA. In 1979, a crew from Apple, led by Jobs, decided to go and visit Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). It was said that Jobs walked away with a vast amount of knowledge and secrets from Xerox that he used in the original MAC. It was believed that the ideas behind the graphical computer display came from PARC when all actuality,......

Intro to Networking

...Intro to Networking Lab 3 Jeff Garwood EX. 3.1 Review 1. The MAC Address is sufficient to route traffic locally because it provides the needed information with regards to the equipment location. This is mostly true on level 2 networks. 2. The Open Systems Interconnection was started in two documents in 1978. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee, or CCITT. In 1983 these two documents were combined as the basic reference model for the OSI. It was created so Protocols could allow the entity in one host to interact with a corresponding entity at the same layer in another host. 3. The TCP dates back into the 1960s on the DOD sponsored ARPANET. In 1973 the TCP/IP came to be and consisted of dozens of different protocols. Of these key protocols, two are usually considered the most important. The Internet Protocol (IP) is the primary OSI network layer (layer three) protocol that provides addressing, datagram routing and other functions in an internetwork. EX. 3.2 Review 1. The composition of the physical wiring, and connectors no matter the type are strictly regulated to ensure the electrons within the communications signal can move fast enough to maintain a connection. The addition of network devices such as switches and routers complete the campus style network. 2. The OSI model is not implemented in a network but is used as a model to guide troubleshooting a local network in......

Intro to Biology

...Adam Richardson Kendra Merchant Intro to Biology lab The Scientific Method 1) What is the problem you are trying to solve? Whether light or dark colors would be more comfortable to wear on a hot, sunny day? 2) What is the prediction you want to test? Light colors are more comfortable to wear on a hot, sunny day? 3) How will you use the computer model to test your hypothesis? What steps will you follow? What data will you record? I will plug the jackets up to the 60 watts and test its temperature. The steps I will take is comparing the light and dark colors of the same material. The date I will record is who had the hottest temperatures and the dark colors had the hottest. 4) Analyze the results of your experiments. With the data I receive it is obvious dark colors observe the most heat. 5) Draw a conclusion. Did the results of your experiment support your hypothesis? Why or why not? My conclusion is it is more comfortable to wear lights colors than dark colors on a sunny day. Yes my results supported my hypothesis because I predicted it would be hotter with dark colors and the hotter you are on a sunny day, the more uncomfortable you are. 6) How does the material of the jacket affect the heat absorption? A material's color affects its ability to absorb light. An object of a certain color reflects that same color but absorbs light from all the other colors. Since light is energy, the more light that an object absorbs, the more heat it absorbs. 7)......

Intro Speech

...Intro Speech There isn’t a lot I can say to summarize my life or the things that are most important to me because I have so many people, things, and memories that mean absolutely everything. I have no visuals today because the three things I deem important enough to talk about can be given justice by simply showing you a picture. My family has my heart day in and day out simply because of their unconditional love and support for me. I have two siblings that I would absolutely die for in any circumstance. I proritize them at the top of my pecking order besides my religion. I’m a keen sports lover and you won’t find a bigger Dallas Cowboy fan the guy you are looking at right now, I relish the Cowboys and yes, we always believer we’re going to win the Super Bowl every year. For no real reason really other than we are the Cowboys. My friends have a huge impact in my demeanor towards a lot of things in life, they help make me, me. It’s too complicated to express how behind I would be in this life if it wasn’t for the people who I have met and engaged with in my lifetime. My parents are divorced, I think I’ve already gained my freshman 15, I have bad problems of waking up for 8 AM classes, my car sucks, and I owe money for rent.If it was up to me I’d probably tell you I’m just your everyday American I suppose, learning to live day by day. This will be my second semester at Western, I have really enjoyed my time here so far. I attended the University of......

Intro to Literature

...David Olsen Othello Essay Intro to Lit 4/14/12 Instructor: The Opinionator The handkerchief plays a central role in Shakespeare’s Othello. It was given to Othello by his mother, and then given to Desdemona by Othello. It may seem farfetched that something as simple as a handkerchief could make a person murder someone else, but when I look back at the story that is exactly happens. The handkerchief symbolizes the relationship and trust between Othello and Desdemona. This seemingly normal handkerchief has a very deep meaning to Othello, and when he finds out who has possession of it towards the end of the play he goes into a frenzy. The whole reason that the handkerchief becomes an object of evil and jealousy is because Iago uses it as a tool to persuade Othello that Cassio is seeing Desdemona. The whole circle of betrayal begins when Desdemona drops the handkerchief and Emilia picks it up. Iago had told Emilia to do so for quite some time. Once Emilia turns it over to Iago, he almost immediately goes to work in his evil ways. He plants the handkerchief in Cassio’s apartment. Cassio can’t figure out whose it is and takes it. Cassio ends up giving it to Bianca. Iago sets the second part of his plot into action when he talks to Othello later on when they are alone`. He tells Othello that he suspects Desdemona is being unfaithful to him with Cassio. Othello demands proof of the affair, and Iago informs him that he saw Cassio give the......

We believe that conducting financial, compliance, and operational audits will be beneficial to your company. A financial statement audit of your company will assist us to obtain and evaluate evidence about your company’s financial position, results of its operations, and cash flows for the purpose of expressing our opinion on whether they are presented fairly in conformity with established criteria—usually generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)(Arens, Elder & Beasley, 2006). A compliance audit will assist us to obtain and evaluate evidence to determine whether your company’s financial or operating activities conform to specified conditions, rules, or regulations. The established criteria in this type of audit may come from a variety of sources. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 requires companies to have a dual-purpose audit that audits both the financial statements and management’s assertion as to whether it has complied with criteria regarding an adequate system of internal control over financial reporting (Arens, Elder & Beasley, 2006). An operational audit will help us to obtain and evaluate evidence about the......
