Simian 40 Virus (Monkey Virus) The scientific medical community must accept the fact that the Simian 40 Virus that was introduced through the Polio Vaccine back in the 50's, is, in deed the base cause of many of today's cancers and immune deficiency diseases. So that once this argument is accepted, positive research can be done in finding a way to kill this virus, kill the cancer it has caused, and rebuilds the immune system, thus finding the real cure for cancer. Between 1952 and 1955 many Researchers including Jonas Salk were frantically trying to perfect a vaccination to stop the horrible effects of the deadly Polio Virus that had swept the Nation as well as the world. The vaccine had to be developed in live tissue, more specifically, a fresh kidney that most closely resembled that of a human's kidney. As the Rhesus Monkey from India was already so abundantly used in laboratories, not much debate went into the choice of subject. Even though the monkey is dirty, temperamental, and it’s bite has already proven to be deadly, the rhesus monkey’s kidney was the tissue used to grow the Polio vaccine. The kidney was extracted from the monkey while still alive, then injected with the live Polio Virus where it was grown and tested. The monkey’s kidney was full of unknown viruses, while totally safe for monkeys, still harmful when injected into the human’s blood stream. The researchers, especially Jonas Salk, in his haste to perfect his vaccine and get it out into the market place for the public, chose to ignore this knowledge, or play it down as harmless. As a result, starting in 1955, millions of grade school age children were injected with Salk’s Polio Vaccine along with Simian 40 virus or as it was called in the first place; Monkey B virus (Klueger). The Simian 40 Virus was discovered…...

...Kelly Haddix Eng Comp 2 Jason Elznic 04/25/2012 My essay will show how Marxism is portrayed within the two short stories, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and A Raisin in the Sun. The purpose of this essay is to explain the Marxism role within these two short stories. I will use an academic approach to accomplish this objective. The role of Marxism is portrayed within these two stories, and I will show how Marxism is portrayed and defined by comparing these two short stories. The similarities between the two stories are that both Walter and McMurphy are fighting against a society that is bent on repressing them. Walter with the white community, and McMurphy with the hospital staff at the mental institution, namely Nurse Ratched. Nurse Ratched represents the controlling party in the mental institution where as the white realtor Mr. Lindner represents the controlling party of the white housing community. According to Dictionary.com the definition of Marxism states that “society is basically the struggle between the social classes.” Randle McMurphy McMurphy showed signs of Marxism’s conflict theory, focusing on the struggles between the classes (nurses and patients).McMurphy violated the norms of society when he was charged with statutory rape and sanctions were imposed, sending him to prison. McMurphy creates a society amongst the patients at the mental institution, which largely affects the structure of the institution. His relationship with the other......

...1) Why is organization an important factor in structuring an essay? Explain how to organize an essay, the steps involved and the importance of organization to good writing. A) Organization is key to effective writing. It helps guide the reader from one main idea to the next in a fluent manner. If an essay does not follow good organization, the essay might turn out poorly organized and confusing, causing the reader to become disinterested to read further. Different essays have various types of organizations. Examples are narrative essays which are told in chronological order or analysis essays which are descending or ascending in order of importance. Organization starts from a good introductory paragraph with a strong thesis which lets the reader know what will be discussed in a certain order. Good organization continues to follow this order written in the thesis to guide the reader throughout many body paragraphs. The essay then ends in a strong conclusion. This is an example of good organization which is critical to good writing because it guides a reader throughout an essay’s argument. 2) Why are supporting ideas important in substantive writing? ...Ch r i s t i n e Ro e ll Intercultural Training with Films ilms are a great medium to use not only to practice English, but also to facilitate intercultural learning. Today English is a global language spoken by people from many countries and cultural backgrounds. Since culture greatly impacts communication, it is helpful for teachers to introduce lessons and activities that reveal how different dialects, forms of address, customs, taboos, and other cultural elements influence interaction among different groups. Numerous films contain excellent examples of intercultural communication and are highly useful resources for teachers. Additional reasons for teachers to incorporate films in class and encourage their students to watch movies in English include: • Films combine pleasure and learning by telling a story in a way that captures and holds the viewer’s interest. • Films simultaneously address different senses and cognitive channels. For example, spoken language is supported by visual elements that make it easier for students to understand the dialogues and the plot. • Students are exposed to the way people actually speak. 2 2010 N u m b e r F • Films involve the viewers, appeal to their feelings, and help them empathize with the protagonists. • DVDs usually come with subtitles in English, which facilitates understanding and improves reading skills. ...Jaime Gil de Gomez Martha Velenzuela ENC1101 11/10/2014 South Africa 2010 The 11th of July of 2010, took place at the “Soccer City Stadium” (Johannesburg, South Africa) the final of the FIFA World Cup between Netherlands and Spain. That was a day I would never forget because we became world champions for the first time in our history thanks to a goal of Andres Iniesta during the overtime in the minute 116. But to get to the final we had to suffer a lot. Everything began when a team full of very talented and very shameless players managed to gain the UEFA Euro 2008 against the almighty and fearsome Germany. This fact permitted the whole Spanish people to dream and to ask themselves: Why not? Why not becoming the next national team to conquer the world cup? Two years later, the world cup began. The 16th of June of 2010 Spain made his debut against Switzerland, an adversary that was supposed to be easy to beat, but because of the nerves, the pressure, and the excessive confidence, we lost. Then, the critiques came, people started to lose confidence in the squad and the press made us doubt the players who were defending our country. In spite of the doubts created around the whole team, they were able to stay together, they gave all they had for winning the following games and they managed to qualify to the next round. Portugal was waiting. Round of 16, the phase of groups has concluded and the removal phase began. In that moment, things became more serious, any......

...This year, in my English 1302 class, I have learned writing skills that I will utilize for the rest of my college career. Communication through text is a critical skill of modern day society and should rightfully take place as required curricula. I have grown through my efforts as a writer and my increasingly practical knowledge of essay construction, source integration as well as an understanding of the importance of this course. In my post-diagnostic examination, I received 56 out of 74. This was four questions less than my pre-diagnostic examination in which I received 60 out of 74. I feel I have grown as a writer further than just correcting the last minute grammatical and spelling errors in order to complete my final drafts. Instead, I have also blossomed in the skill of communication through my writing. I have learned the required structure of an essay, and how to construct a literature review as well as a researched argument. I still require practice in some areas of grammatical structure, such as comma splicing, as this was a recurring problem and an area of weakness for me. I have learned that a properly formed essay requires an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion. In the introduction, the thesis should be clear and is normally located at the end of the introduction. I learned the introduction requires an exigency describing why my topic is significant. In the body paragraphs, topic sentences are crucial. They should point back to the thesis and explain...

...Lizbeth Gerena Final Project- My Writing Portfolio English Comp. 101 Prof. Cody June 27, 2015 I have decided to enter writing assignments 1, 2, and 5 into my writing portfolio as a part of my final project. I chose these three specific essays because each essay relates to me in a unique way regarding my life experiences. I feel that I capture my audience’s attention in such a personal way that they desire to hear more. My personal writing comes from a vantage point about a particular subject in an expressive aim. The content of my writings are equipped for people who are more advanced in life; compared to those who haven’t had experience to support a family, finances, or particular employment. My writings apply to the expressive aim of writing and have comparable lacks. In my future writing processes, I plan to sum up my essays with less redundancy and more content. I learned to touch on the major points of my writings without presenting new information into my conclusions. While reviewing my essays, I realized that I continued to repeat the same errors but made the effort to not double speak when creating my words and thoughts. Given the corrections, I was able to make improvements to my writings so that they will have a continuous, but steady flow avoiding lessening the value of the subject at hand. Throughout the review process of my writing assignment 1, I was able to learn how to conduct APA Style within in my......

...The season of carnival involves many people partying in the streets for hours on end. This also involves much drinking and socializing so most people are drunk and do not know what they are saying or saying too much of the truth. During the festival he happens upon Fortunato, who appears to have been drinking for some time and asks him if he would like to go and taste the pipe of Amontillado - a wine he had just bought. When Montresor asked Fortunato this question, he knows the answer will be yes because, “He had a weak point - this Fortunato - although in other regards he was a man to be respected and even feared. He prided himself on his connoisseurship in wine.”(Poe 543) This makes it easy for him to lure poor unknowing Fortunato to his final resting place. He was not expecting to die or anything close to it. He was expecting to get drunk while enjoying some very good wine. When one is told they are going to go taste wine by a good friend they let some of their shields down. When with people we know and trust we tend to not be on our guard or expect anything to happen. Another fact, besides Fortunato’s inebriation, which enabled Montresor to easily keep him on the unhealthy path of his own destruction, was his ego. Several times before and on the trip through the dungeon, Montresor implies he can get another man, Luchesi, to inspect the Amontillado, so that they can return to the healthier surface. For in the dungeon there is poor air and was making Fortunato cough and be......
