Leona Tyler was born on May 10, 1906. She was born in Chetek, Wisconsin to Leon Tyler and Bessie Carver Tyler. Leona had three siblings and was greatly influenced by her mother. Her mother treated her equally to her brothers and she encouraged her children to receive higher education because neither she nor Leona’s father pursued higher education. Leona was very smart so she was able to skip some grades and graduate from high school at the age of fifteen then she went on to graduate college at age of nineteen. Tyler got her Bachelors degree at the University of Minnesota at age 19 and a Ph. D in psychology at the University of Minnesota. After graduating Leona did what most women that were highly educated did back in those days, she taught school. After teacher her students for a number of years Tyler found disciplining the students to be no longer desirable to her. Tyler taught at several institutions following her graduating college. These institutions included Muskegon Heights and University of Oregon. Tyler was fascinated by the things she read in the writings of her students and how diverse the writings were, which fueled her interest in individual differences. She got to see firsthand how some forced choices and pressures of life would shape her students’ futures. Tyler opened a counseling center for soldiers returning from WWII where she spent one third of her time counseling. With all the resources she had to make money Tyler was able to publish her first book in 1947 entitled, “The Psychology of Human Differences”. After all her years of study, teaching, and counseling Tyler came up with the theory of possibilities. Her theory states that all creatures are characterized by multipotentiality (http://www.webster.edu). She explained that even though people have many…...

...pleasure in gardening. In my back yard I have carrots, wax beans, and some flowers. My whole family likes to garden. What I Admire About Leona the Kind One I admire Leona because she loves people and is outgoing. Leona planted goldenrod in honor of her grandmother. I think that was nice and creative because she loves the tea that can be made out of it. I thought that it was nice when she explained how the garden keeps going when the electricity goes off. She talked to Maricela about the nature of the garden and helped her realize that she was part of nature. I think my aunt and Leona are both alike because they both like to garden. Comparing and Contrasting Leona and Virgil Both Leona and Virgil help clean up the garden. Leona went to the Public Health Department and protested about so much trash in the lot. Virgil picked up bolts and screws and bits and pieces of other trash. Leona got the idea of growing goldenrod from her grandmother who loved it as tea. Virgil got the idea of growing lettuce from his father. Both Leona and Virgil planted something that they could eat. Virgil is with his family during this book and Leona has two high-school-aged kids. While Leona loves the garden and that's why she protested about the trash, Virgil has a different perspective. He takes the garden for granted so he can get a new bike. Both Leona and Virgil have differences and similarities, yet both are great in different ways. ...

...Now that’s not taking away anything from the dominate Spurs offense but the Heat certainly are better than what they been showing. This could be the last year of the big 3 era as LeBron James contract is up after this season and could be the last time to watch the best team in my era compete. Of course there are talks of Carmelo Anthony joining the Heat and creating what is almost like the starting 5 of an All-Star team. As a fan I am rooting for LeBron and the Heat to pull it out and to win back to back to back championships just to prove to all the haters that they can do it and will go down as one of the greatest teams of all time. If you enjoy basketball then you love watching the Heat play. LeBron James will carry them to victory! Tyler Lubrant 6/14/2014...

...Running Head: RESEARCH REPORT: OBSTACLES OF UT TYLER STUDENTS. Research Report: Obstacles of UT Tyler Students Lisa Womack University of Texas—Tyler In partial fulfillment of the requirements for (CRIJ 4322) Dr. Barbara Hart November 15, 2010 Research Report: Obstacles of UT Tyler Students Introduction Throughout a student’s education, progression is measured by representative grade point average (GPA). Furthermore, one may question whether economic status affects a first time student’s success, and one may speculate if age directly relates to GPA. First time generation college students may struggle with the decision to attend college due to family pressures, which relates to the required necessity of needing a job due to their limited finances. Likewise, the non-traditional student may have greater responsibility; such as, child care expenses and other financial responsibilities; whereas, the traditional student may have minimal expenses with the exception of childcare, which relates to effecting his or hers GPA based on priorities. My personal interests in choosing the following two hypotheses derive from my perception and background. Growing up, I felt college was something I could never achieve because no one else in my family had ever attained a college degree; nevertheless, I was not aware of how a college degree could benefit me or what procedures to take to see if acceptance into a college was possible with only a General Education Degree. As well,...

State of Missouri V. Tyler G. Mcneely

...Name: cherry boom Case Name | STATE of Missouri V. Tyler G. McNEELY | Citation(year) | 358 S.W.3d 65 January 17, 2012 | Ct/J. | John G. Roberts Chief Justice | Pro. History | A trial judge ruled in McNeely's favor to suppress the results of the blood test, stating that administering a blood test without a warrant was a violation of the suspect's Fourth Amendment protection against unreasonable searches and seizures. State prosecutors later argued that the administration of the test without a warrant was justified as blood alcohol would be metabolized with time, and a delay in obtaining a warrant would amount to destruction of evidence, citing the exigent circumstances exception in the United States Supreme Court decision Schmerber v. California. On appeal, the state appeals court stated an intention to reverse, but transferred the case directly to the Missouri Supreme Court. The Missouri Supreme Court affirmed the trial court's decision that the officer had violated McNeely's Fourth Amendment rights. | Short Facts | On October 3, 2010, at approximately 2:08 A.M., patrolman Mark Winder stopped Tyler G. McNeely for speeding. During the routine traffic stop, Winder thought McNeely showed signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and the smell of alcohol on his person. As a result, Winder had McNeely perform multiple field-sobriety tests. According to Winder’s later testimony, because McNeely performed poorly on each of these tests, Winder...

Effective Leadership Practices

...Effective Leadership Practices Project – Leona Helmsley Introduction The leader I selected is Leona Helmsley. The success of the Helmsley name and ultimate development of their family fortune has often been attributed to Helmsley’s leadership and influence. Though her reputation as a highly successful hotelier and real estate mogul precedes her she was also a very complex woman and, frankly, not very well liked. I chose Mrs. Helmsley because her because I was intrigued by her ability to maintain her complexity while continuing to garner success. The Helmsley Definition of Leadership I didn’t find any direct quotes from Mrs. Helmsley about her definition of leadership, but based upon what various reports have stated regarding how she treated her employees I gathered that Mrs. Helmsley ascribed to the Autocratic leadership style. Dr. Don Warrick (1981) from the University of Colorado describes the Autocratic Leader as one who has a, High emphasis on performance and a low emphasis on people. (They) Assume that people are lazy, irresponsible, and untrustworthy and that planning, organizing, controlling, and decision-making should be accomplished by the leader with minimal employee involvement. (They) Rely on authority, control, power, manipulation and hard work to get the job done. (pg. 158) One account given said she was a “nit-picking perfectionist who would throw a fit if an ashtray was missing, or a doorknob wasn’t polished or some item was missing in a......

Tyler Junior College Philosophy Presentation

...Rene Descartes is known as “The father of modern philosophy”, and published “Discourse on the Method.” Before Descartes invented his philosophy, in Europe, Scholasticism was prevalent. It says, “God lights up the truth, and people who don’t know cannot get the truth” ( ). He denied this idea and indicated that, with reason, we can find a certain spot where everyone can receive common truth. This idea was groundbreaking at the time. Human being can speculate the world with reason and can grasp its comprehends picture. Unless we misuse reason, we can achieve the same goal. In other words, there is world universality. However, the problem is where we should put the start point of speculation, where to put principle. If each person has each start point, of course goal should be different from on another. Before Descartes, Scholarcism, which tell grasping the truth with strong belief, was prevalent. However, Descartes denied this completely. Overcoming the difference of religions and cultures, and finding the common understanding with reason was the goal of Descartes. Descartes said, “To use reason correctly, we have to follow the “method”. So let’s check out each method. First, the purpose of study is to lead people’s mind to the solid truth. Descartes said, “ Seeking the universality is not to get Schlorsicm knowledge, but to make our life better.” Second, study the thing we can absolutely understand with reason. He said this because, if we work on......

...going to explain his lateness to Leona? He already made her worry enough when he went off to try and save Osiris. It wasn’t healthy for her or the baby. The closer he got to his home the farther his thoughts went from him to his wife and child. What was the man asking of him? He couldn’t just drop all he had gained and worked for and loved to go on some quest. Even Osiris knew what he had when he gave him the pendant. Perhaps he was just a vassal and the trip would be a short one, but if that was the case wouldn’t it have been easier to call upon one of the youth of the village? Richard’s thoughts were cut short as the faint smell of smoke slowly snuck into his nostrils like thieves in the night upon a small group of travelling merchants. If Richard had been born a dog his ears would have perked up but instead, without any thinking whatsoever he leaped into a full sprint towards the smell until he came onto a contingent of soldiers surrounding his house, throwing torches into his windows and kicking down the door. And in that glimpse of time he saw Leona, ash covered and bloodied in the face be grabbed by a soldier. No. It wasn’t a soldier. The man was taller than the regular foot soldier. Standing a head and a half and, as far as Richard could tell. Was dark skinned and of a big, bulky muscular build. Richard, who had been hiding in the trees right outside his house had been having a growing rage build inside of him and at the look of Leona, alive but captured as she was......
