“Don’t hurry. Don’t worry. You’re only here for a short visit. So don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.” Thank you for the advice, Walter Hagen. But, I have a better idea. How about I take a picture of the roses using my iPhone, open it up with my Photoshop application to enhance the colors, and then upload it to Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter in a matter of sixty seconds?

I have to admit, just reading the assignment posted on the syllabus was a painful experience.

But I survived, and after 24 hours I am not at all ashamed to review my results.

Everywhere I go, media surrounds me; at home, school and most definitely at my workplace. I spent a day this past weekend in a state of isolation. It was difficult to ignore all facets of media, and find other activities to substitute them. I felt alone, bored, out of the loop, and tired. My dependence on media is strong, and I felt as if there were a piece of myself missing.

To be more specific, the use of media technology is one aspect that ties my family together. We rely on constant communication for safety purposes. My parents, siblings, and I are on opposite schedules, so it is very important to make sure we keep in contact and update one another. What I missed the most was having my iPhone in hand. I really missed listening to a voicemail from my mom telling me to have a great day, or receiving a text message every twenty minutes from my sister, blabbing on about something cute our cat just did. I use media not only for communication with family members, but also as a hobby of mine.

One of my favorite past-times is working with media technology to create works of art. I focus a lot of my attention to all different aspects of media communication and apply it with my artistic ability to put together videos. They show families with different ethics, race, morals, etc. As a human being it is natural to see people a certain way. Many times the media shows it the most. The media seems to show Hispanics as poor and struggling and the "White" family as rich and happy. ...Media Analysis My analysis of major themes and how the media participate in the construction of attitudes about gender and sexual orientation is predicated upon 16 articles drawn from three major news sources: Newsweek, The New York Times, and The Advocate. The articles were published in the months of January, February, and March. The selection of the articles was not random; I specifically chose articles whose titles and introductions were of particular interest. The three news sources, particularly the Times and The Advocate, published many articles related to LGBT issues—typically greater than a dozen for each weekly search—from which I selected only two per week. In sifting through the 16 articles, I identified three important themes that tie, by and large, the articles together: notions of inalienable rights (marriage), the normalization of homosexuality, and LGBT and frequently, by extension, women’s empowerment. I argue that the Times, by virtue of its wide distribution and generally positive portrayal of LGBT people, attempts to ‘normalize’ (nationally) sexual orientations other than heterosexual; that The Advocate, whose primary audience is LGBT people, attempts to promote LGBT empowerment (encourages LGBT people to stand up for themselves), contemplating a world in which LGBT people enjoy equal rights and equal protection; and that Newsweek, a national weekly magazine, highlights the political debate about rights, generally being more circumspect/judicious......

I decided to write about this case because the incident only occurred two years ago, which means the problem still exists today. The author is in full control of manipulating the readers/viewers thoughts. Each author uses different writing style, which then leads to opinions rather than conveying the truthful story . Two of these three stories involve health risk and one story pertains to a pro-life argument. The first story I read explained how the nuclear power industry is immune from liability in nuclear accidents. The example used in the article was the 2011 TEPCO Fukushima meltdown. Big corporations commonly go outside the US borders to build their factories or power plants due to two reasons. One much cheaper labor force abroad.
