1) Freud could explain the personality differences between Mike and Marty Scanlon by saying that he believes much of our behavior is motivated by the unconscious, a part of the personality that contains the memories, knowledge, beliefs, feelings, urges, drives and instincts of which the individual is not aware of. Mike encountered some type of conflict during a stage in his life. It was most likely the phallic stage. If a problem occurred during this stage, they might produce an adult who fails to develop a conscience and has improper sex-role behavior. Marty would be viewed as he passed through that stage with no problem.

2) According to the Big Five personality traits Mike was careless, impulsive and disorganized. He was always in trouble and had absolutely no cares in the world. He would be rated highly in openness to experience and lowly in conscientiousness, highly in extraversion and lowly in agreeableness, and highly in neuroticism or emotional stability. Marty was quite, sympathetic, kind and appreciative, stable, calm, secure, and did not drink alcoholic beverages. He would be rated highly in openness to experience, highly in conscientiousness and lowly in extroversion, highly in agreeableness and in neuroticism or emotional stability.

3) Given that Mike and Marty are twins and share some of their genetic makeup, but I do not believe they have pronounced difference in personality. It was determined that genes do play a part in our personality, but both heredity and environmental factors interact to form an individual’s personality. I think temperament also plays a large role in this case because both of them seem to have the same temperament throughout each of their lives. Temperament is quite consistent with significant stability from infancy into adolescence. Certain personality traits have genetic components, and that heredity and…...

Bio Scotch of Mike Tyson

...Jared Dickerson PSYC120-1204A-3 The Mind of A champion: Profile on Mike Tyson November 11, 12 What the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Mike Tyson? The man who once told a reporter he was going to rape him? Or, the man who overcame the odds rose to the top to become champion? I choose to do a psychological sketch on Tyson because he was once the richest and best-known athlete in the world, but still remains one of the hardest people to understand. Mike Tyson was born June 30th 1966 in Brooklyn, New York. By the age of two he was living with his 5 siblings in a single parent household in Brownsville New York, one of the toughest neighborhoods in the city. Having being exposed to domestic violence at an early age, Tyson would build a love for training pigeon as an escape of his reality. At age 9, a 15-year-old gang member decapitated one of Tyson’s beloved pigeons by turning it’s head slowly till it snapped off. Seeing this Tyson attacked the boy like a wild animal and brutally beat him. From that point Tyson reputation began to grow in his neighborhood. Tyson was quoted in an interview stating, “I never saw my mother happy with me and proud of me for doing something.  She only knew me as being a wild kid running the streets, coming home with new clothes that she knew I didn't pay for. I never got a chance to talk to her or know about her. Professionally, it has no effect, but it's crushing emotionally and personally." If a child......

Mike Bellobuono Case

...The write-up case: Mike Bellobuono Recommendation: In my opinion Mike Bellobuono should not choose to franchise. If Mike accepts Fred Deluca’s offer and franchises there are some risks that Mike must consider. One of the risks is that Bagelz could end up being an extension of Fred Deluca’s empire and in the worst case scenario Mike could lose control of the whole operation. All employees in Bagelz should have the same guidance and they should be aware of the company’s goals and values. It requires a huge control of the business! If Mike loses control of the business and something goes wrong, it will still be Mike’s responsibility. One bad story could damage the Bagelz reputation like it did with the company Jack-in-the-box. Legal challenges could arise if the relationship between Frank Deluca and Mike results in conflict. Irv, Bagelz’s chief bagel-maker, has two important qualities. He has 20 years experience in the business and he is an innovative person. To have an employee with such knowledge and skills is a huge benefit for the company and it will strength their competitiveness. Mike appreciates the flexibility of Bagelz’s management. Furthermore Bagelz is quick to spot and react to new market trends and direction and maybe that is one of the reason that Bagelz has got so popular and established seven retail locations in only three years in Connecticut. If Bagelz decides to franchise, the flexibility will be more restricted. To get a new idea through and......

Psychoanalyizing Mike Tyson

...MIKE TYSON PSYCHOANALYTIC REPORT PSYCHOLOGY DR WHITELY QUINISE CAMPBELL August 26, 2014 I chose for my subject Michael Gerard “Mike” Tyson. Mike Tyson is an American retired professional boxer. What attracted me to pick Mike Tyson was that I felt that he was a gentle giant that has been misunderstood in this life. So with this psychoanalytic study we are going to break down the myths that people think about him. I know this is not supposed to be a biography about the life of Mike Tyson; but to give some insight on which of the 7 psychology’s major perspectives I chose you have to know a little about his background. At an early age Tyson’s parent separated, leaving him to be raised by a single mother, he witnessed a horrific and gruesome atmosphere of crime, drugs, and violence. He had never had a physical altercation at that point in his life, but after continually being bullied Tyson finally stood up for himself when another boy grabbed his pet pigeon and broke its neck. Tyson describes that as his first fight, and it was the one that started his continual fighting in the streets and also the development of his criminal behavior. I think that the early stages of his life fall under the Socioculture perspective level. The values and beliefs transmitted from his social and cultural environment played a huge part in all of the trouble that he got into as a child and as adolescent. John Locke once proposed that humans are born with a blank slate (tabula rasa) into the...

Mike and Marty Scanlon, the Unlikely Twins

... Quality of services for rape survivors in Kenya Sexual violence is a serious health and violation of human rights issue in Kenya. Sexual violence has adverse psycho-social and physical consequences on the survivors. Following the violence that erupted after the disputed general elections in 2008, the wave of sexual violence targeting women and girls were the clearest manifestations of the intensity of sexual violence in Kenya. Rape violence threatens the attainment of goals of global development and other national goals as contained in Vision 2030 as it leads to affecting the survivors and their health. Sexual violence is a significant risk factor that contributes towards the vulnerability of contracting HIV/AIDS. Sexual violence is an issue of concern in the transmission of the AIDS virus especially among adolescents. These require measures comprehensive to address the issues of sexual violence and meet the complex and diverse needs of the survivors (Bott, Guedes,Guezmes & Claramunt, 2004). Care for the survivors of the violence starts from medical treatment that begins with the management of physical injuries, emergency medication that will ensure the reduction of the risk of contracting viruses. The care also entails the provision of emergency medication that will shield the survivor from getting pregnant. Psycho-social services offered which include counseling to enable the victims deal with the shock and legal procedures for the victims to access justice.......

It is clear that these conceptions represent very different views of intelligence. Psychologist Howard Garner has taken a different approach from traditional thinking. Rather than ask “How smart are you?” the question asked should be “How are you smart?” Mike and Marty are intelligent in different ways....

The Article Is Written by Mike Whitney

...The article is written by Mike Whitney in 2014 and is a long rand about how the American Dream is dead and the government is corrupt. Finding background information about this author was not an easy task. On his website you find a large number of articles that all seem to have the same theme; criticizing the modern society and the ‘evil’ capitalistic country of America. However, is it really true that there are just no way to get yourself out of poverty or climb the social ladder? That it would be completely impossible to get out of poverty - is not a true statement, if you ask me. if you work hard, finish High School and College there is a 72% chance that you will join the middleclass . The Article also says that if you end up in the middleclass you are most likely to spend the rest of your life working a “shitty” middleclass job that you don’t like. But is the US really at fault? Of course, a huge part of the middleclass will continue to stay in the middleclass because not everyone can become a billionaire. In today’s world, it is not an easy task to become super successful in any country, and just because you work the same job for a long time and work hard, it does not mean that you automatically become CEO. It is not that simple anymore; you will have to consider many aspects like social skills, creativity, getting to know the right people, luck etc. I am not saying that the capitalistic world we live in is fair, but there is not much we can do about it - or maybe......

Mike Carona: Amercia's Sheriff?

...Carona” (Coker). Michael S. "Mike" Carona is a convicted felon and former Sheriff-Coroner of Orange County, California. According to the OC Register, as a convicted felon, Mike Carona is currently collecting $195,120 annually from his pension. For Mike Carona crime did pay. But how is this possible? Authors Saavedra, Schwebke, and Tillman stated a new state law that only became effective in 2006 denies a public pension to any public official convicted of wrongdoing in office. Due to this law, if Carona is convicted, he would be denied benefits accumulated from January 2006 through his leaving office, which is just one year. This means Carona will still collect the majority of his pension. The thought of anyone convicted of crimes receiving a public pension has not gone unseen. Chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors at the time, John Moorlach confirmed that Carona would indeed still receive his pension when asked about it. Moorlach sarcastically stated "I think working for the county is wonderful. If you're indicted, you still get your pension" (OC Register). Moorlach led county supervisors to file suit to repeal the pension. The suit was rejected and is now pending appeal. Furthermore, there was a petition to put Carona’s pension back into OC schools, however nothing was been done yet and Carona is still collecting. In a matter of time Carona went from “America’s Sherriff” to convicted felon. How did this happen? It all started when Mike Carona was appointed......

...ways to grow their business. Economists have discussed the two most important issues in International Business are: - What drives firm strategy? - What determine the success and failure of firms around the world? Most of the times in International Business authors rely on two frameworks, namely institution based view (developed by Porter in 1980) and resources based view (exemplified by Barney in 1991). The first one explains that conditions within an industry determine firm strategy and performance, whereas the second one focuses on the firm specific differences. What Mike Peng found out is that these economists were ignoring formal and informal institutions that provide the context of competition among industries and firms (because they based their theories on a relatively stable market-based institutional framework). As a matter of fact, in “An institution-based view of international business strategy”, Mike Peng presents in a first part how institutions are the “third leg in strategy tripod” and what is the key question in international business. In a second part, he develops four diverse areas of substantive research regarding business in emerging economies, which are antidumping as entry barriers, competing in and out of India, growing a firm in China and finally governing a corporation in emerging economies....
