Abstract
Communication is a daily part of everyone’s personal and professional life. It can influence the success of relationships as well as organizations. It is, however, the way information is delivered that determines whether the communication is successful or not. There are many people working within an organization and communication is one of the essential attributes for reaching the common goals and visions. In the following, elements of effective communication are defined and compared to communication within Prestige Real Estate.

Communication is considered one of the basic concepts in both a person’s personal and professional life. An organization’s existence is built on communication. Even though this process is often taken for granted, communication allows people to coordinate and collaborate actions, make important decisions affecting many people and most importantly it is allows the organization to function as an entity. Communication serves as the link that binds different functions, groups and individuals together creating a unified whole. Communication is often misunderstood or not interpreted correctly; therefore, effective communication is the key for all types of organizations in order to be successful (Church, 1996).
In today’s world, the ability to communicate effectively is tied closely to the success of the organization. Modern organizations seek people that are smart with their words. Since organizations consist of people, smart communication is essential. The outcome of a common task, the outcome of working on a common task is dependent on the compatibility of people within the group or organization. These traits include leadership styles, sources of power, motivation and culture, and commitment of the employees to the organization. Leadership Styles and Communication Walt Disney was a charismatic leader who shared his vision of creating “one of the world's leading producers and providers of entertainment and information,” and “seeking to develop the most creative, innovative and profitable entertainment experiences and related products in the world"1 (retailindustry). He communicated this vision to all his employees and encouraged them to adopt it as their own. This was done by creating an extensive orientation and training program for his employees. They were encouraged to treat their customers as guests. Organizational communication fosters a strong and productive organizational culture. One of the vital common characteristics of an organizational culture is innovation and risk taking. “Upward communication flows to a higher level in the group or organization. It’s used to provide feedback to higher-ups, inform them of progress toward goals, and relay current problems” (Robbins & Judge, 2011, ). If the organization does not encourage upward communication, the lack of feedback from the employees will eliminate the generation of new ideas. However, communication encompasses much more than the passing of information. For communication to be effective there needs to be a mutual understanding of presented information. Communication is also entrusted upon to instruct, inform, and educate individuals. The communication process can accomplish a lot more than only sharing information, it can build valuable relationships between the sender and the receiver. The communication process can be explained through a communication process model. In the Communication Process Model, information is sent from the sender to the receiver through a communication channel, mostly verbally or electronically. As this is occurring, the information is then encoded into a form that the sender regards the receiver will decode and interpret easily. From there, the message would have been presumed to be confirmed and understood by both the sender and the receiver.
