Children and adolescents have increasingly gained weight over the years, with one reason being that children are spending less time engaged in physical activities. Where children used to go outside to play and were physically active, today they can be found in front of television sets for long hours, watching TV or playing video games, neither of which require much physical interaction. Children have also become accustomed to eating fast food and vending machine junk food as opposed to healthy choices in meals. Healthcare providers, teachers and parents can play an important role in helping to reduce obesity in children. Some suggestions to help with this growing problem includes making changes to the food that is served in school cafeterias, and encouraging children to become more physically active. (Green & Reese; 2006) Nearly 1 in 3 children in America are overweight or obese. According to www.childrensdefense.org, “child obesity among school-aged children and adolescents has tripled and is affecting children at an increasingly younger age.” In the spring of 2010, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine studied the nutritional value of school lunches and found that many lunchrooms were still serving foods high in calories, saturated fats, sugars and refined grains. (www.livestrong.com) In order to ensure that school children receive meals that are healthy and which provide nutritional value, changes to the regulations for foods that are served in public schools need to be made and adhered to across the board. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2004), “Over 16 percent of children and adolescents from six to 19 years of age are overweight and/or obese.” They also note that those numbers have, since…...

Why education is important to societies and economic growth and how education is the backbone for our society to be innovative, competitive, and how increasing our national graduation rate contributes to economic growth What is the greatest strength of this essay? I believe paragraphs 2 & 3 were the greatest strengths of this essay talking about the death penalty information and the prison inmates who did not have an education beyond high school Does the introduction grab your interest and make you want to read on? Explain your answer. No the introduction did not grab my interest at all. I had a hard time getting past the first paragraph. There are many grammatical errors, run on sentences and a lot of spelling errors. You have to read between the lines so to speak to know what the author is trying to say here. What material does not seem to fit the main point of the essay or does not seem to be appropriate for the audience? I believe paragraph 3 does not really fit the main point of the essay in that it rambles and does not flow well. It is difficult to know exactly what the writer is saying here. Where should the author add more details or examples? Explain your answer. Paragraph 6 needs more details talking about our political figures always putting a time frame on improving our education system. I believe they could expound a little more just how our political figures do try to......

...The role and importance that religion plays when it comes to education is a controversial topic that continues to spark debate in the world today. In Walter Feinberg's peer review of Warren A. Nord's Does God Make a Difference!, the idea that religion be made compulsory in public schools is brought to discussion. In the review, Feinberg speaks about the reasons as to why religion courses taken at school may be favourable, on what ground those religious courses be taught on should they be incorporated into the school system, and the invalidity of Nord's argument in favour of religion in public school. Where Nord believes that the reason religion should be studied in schools is to provide balance with the large amount of secular courses taken, Feinberg disagrees, stating that this is not reason enough to evoke the mandation of religion courses. Rather, Feinberg feels that since students are exposed to an environment instilled with religion, providing them different perspectives of their current understandings may envoke self-reflection and self-criticism towards their own beliefs. Moreover, he states that this type of learning will promotoe critical thinking due to the exposition of alternative worldviews because it introduces them to a different way that they see the world. Feinberg goes on further to say that a way of going about this would be to allow students to interpret sacred texts, but having them understand it the way they choose to. As a result, this aim brings......

...Memorandum To: Peer Review Committee/ Board of Trustees From: Tammy Gonzalez CC: Major Hospital Date: February 5, 2016 RE: Heart Transplant Decision As the Lead Surgeon and the person responsible for making the decisions for the transplant cases in the hospital, it often creates circumstances in which I have to make difficult ethical decisions. Currently, I have three people waiting for a heart transplant, but I only have one heart that has recently become available. From an ethical perspective, all candidates are equally deserving of the heart despite any past or current actions that may have contributed to their condition. After taking everything into consideration, I feel as though, 12-year-old Lisa will benefit the most in this situation. This resolution was a result of utilitarian ethics, which bases the value of consequences of an action by determining the ethical value of the action itself. Utilitarianism relies on the “greater good”, in which the actions that cause pleasure to the greatest number of those most worth doing. The first candidate Jerry is a 55 years old mid- level manager at a carpet distributing business and is five years short of retirement. He has three teenage children with his wife Joanie, who is a stay- at- home mother. Although Jerry needs the transplant because of his steroid use during his 20’s to satisfy his bodybuilding phase, we can't judge him since back then no one had any awareness of the harmful effects that steroids can have....

Photography Peer Review

...Peer Review “Hidden in a Bed of Flowers” ¹ Lauren attempted to use several techniques throughout her photographs. Overall in all the photographs she used low horizon, shapes, high horizon, color, value, rule of third, emphasis, deep depth of field, narrow depth of field, texture, and form. She was definitely successful in achieving her goals due to the fact that I was able to see all the techniques and differentiate between them just by a glimpse at them. In the first photograph of the “Gradient Sky” she used the techniques of low horizon to showcase the gradient colour of the sky. Secondly, shape is used in a way that the silhouette show shape through the outline of the barn. Finally, there is an element of colour included as well with the sky in a combination of blue and orange and they are complementary colours highlighting each other. I think she was successful achieving colour and low horizon as the colours are easy to point out for example the blending of all the colours in the sky during the sun set or sun rise. Low horizon is also well attained. I think in my opinion 1 technique she can definitely improve a lot more could be on the element of shape. Shape can be improved by slightly moving towards the right side to include the entire picture of the house and the outline of the barn so the shape could be a lot more noticeable. This would also help due to the fact that the windows of the house would be a lot more obvious and easy to consider as the element of......
