Personal Ethics Development Paper Ethics are the foundation to a person and personal ethics go much deeper than just what a person believes. Personal ethics focuses on what a person believes in and how they live their life based on these beliefs. Treviño & Nelson (2007) States that a lifetime of socialization from parents and religious institutions should prepare people to be ethical at work, but is that really the case? In this paper I am going to go into detail how people are taught different beliefs not just based on parents and authority figures, but by mishaps and mistakes that a person learns. Characteristics are something that many of us learn from either observing it from another person or something that we picked up subconsciously from another person. There are also ethical dilemmas that happen when a person is taught one thing and an organization believes another, it can become conflicting. Treviño & Nelson (2007, p3.)says, “Situations concerning right and wrong where values are in conflict” either for the individual or for the organization.A great example that I have seen is with the holidays as there are many people who have different beliefs. In many organizations, it is standard to not celebrate a specific holiday because it may offend others. I have worked with some companies that due celebrate a specific holiday because they own the business and it is what they believe in. In was a little uncomfortable for some of the employees that worked there because they did not believe in the same beliefs as the owners. This is an example of a small ethical dilemma as it was hard for the employee because the organization celebrated something that was not familiar to them. If you had a toy that the others wanted to play with rather than telling them no normally the elder would walk over to you and say to share the activity or game that you are playing or let others join in and play with you.
