The Secret

...Policy Topic: Reaction Paper (The Secret) I. Introduction The Secret is a best-selling 2006 self-help book written by Rhonda Byrne, based on the earlier film of the same name. It is based on the law of attraction and claims that positive thinking can create life-changing results such as increased wealth, health, and happiness. The book has sold more than 19 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 44 languages, but has nevertheless attracted a great deal of controversy, as well as being parodied in several TV programs. About the Author Rhonda Byrne (born 12 March 1951) is an Australian television writer and producer, best known for her New Thought works, The Secret—a book and a film by the same name. By the spring of 2007 the book had sold more than 19 million copies and the DVD more than 2 million. She has also been a producer for Sensing Murder.  According to an article published by Australia's Herald Sun, Byrne has also worked on the Australian TV series World's Greatest Commercials and Marry Me. In 2007, Byrne was listed among Time Magazine's list of 100 people who shape the world. She gained her fame and fortune after appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show.[2] On 17 August 2010, The Power, which is a sequel to The Secret, was published as both a hardcover edition and audio CD. According to a January 2009 article at Forbes.com, Byrne's book and film have made $300 million. Forbes.com also mentioned that "The Secret" alone generated her income of......

...FI 398 Paper on Liar’s Poker The History of the Secondary Mortgage Market The secondary mortgage market is one of the richest asset classes in the world today. This market is formed by the trading of securities that are backed by commercial and residential mortgages. There are two main assets that are traded. These are Mortgage Backed Securities (MBS), and Collateralized Mortgage Obligations (CMOs). These two distinct asset classes make the market a very profitable one for many large investment corporations. Thanks to legislative action, most notably when Michael Lewis said, “From the early 1930s legislators had created a portfolio of incentives for Americans to borrow money to buy their homes”(121). These legislative policies made owning your own home something more attractive, because borrowing for it went on to benefit you for tax purposes. In the 1970s, the nation’s mortgage portfolio was booming in growth. As Lewis noted, “the volume of outstanding mortgage loans swelled from $55 billion in 1950 to $700 billion in 1976. In January 1980 that figure became $1.2 trillion, and the mortgage market surpassed the combined United States stock markets as the largest capital market in the world”(122). These are truly shocking numbers. The growth in the industry was completely unforeseen. While there are several similarities between mortgages and bonds, particularly after the development of MBS and CMOs, they are also different. The main difference is that......

You are replacing SFC Sharp who is on the promotion list to master sergeant and is departing for his next duty assignment in two weeks. SFC Sharp’s welcome was impressive and he has done everything imaginable to ensure you’re getting off to a good start. Your Soldiers appear well trained, and your section sergeant, SGT Day, seems to know just about everything. You know you have big shoes to fill when SFC Sharp leaves because everyone seems to like and respect him. You’ve heard people say that he knows more about infantry operations than most infantry platoon sergeants. SFC Sharp has cleaned out his desk and tells you to make yourself at home. Later this afternoon he is receiving an award for his service to the 99th. His farewell party is this evening at the club. As you are setting up your things in your new desk, you discover some papers wedged between the wall and the side of the desk. You pull them out and discover that they are pages from a communication security book and marked “SECRET.” You attach a cover sheet to them and go into the security vault to talk to SGT Day. SGT Day checks the inventory and destruction certificates and discovers that SFC Sharp certified the destruction of the book these pages came from two weeks ago. Both you and SGT Day search the vault and the outer office for any other......

The Secret

...The Secret can be helpful for those who are looking to develop a positive attitude and create a winning mind set. By being more hopeful they would increase their chances of excelling in what they set out to do. The secret can also help an individual’s creativity to improve because it can inspire them to see things differently. For a client who is doubtful about their own potential as a person, it could empower them to see the good in themselves. The motivational messages presented in this movie can be very powerful in helping people overcome their challenges. The movie speaks of a breast cancer survivor and “The Miracle Man” who used the secret and became healthy again .Although this may not seem convincing, it could bring hope to person’s life. Although this movie is a great self help guide, I wouldn’t recommend it to a client. If they experienced a devastating situation in their life it could be very troubling for them to believe that they attracted it. The movie states that all the negative experiences in our life are due to us attracting it. This means that the victims of 9/11, cancer patients, and every victim of the Haiti catastrophe, were the creators of their own suffering. They also say that it is life changing to accept it as our own mistake. I believe that these suggestions are completely wrong. Nobody would want to attract illness, disaster, or hardship into their life. In this part, I think the secret is mistaken. In conclusion, I think that the secret is a......

A Secret

...Basically: - Thoughts become things... Whatever you dwell on will manifest into real life events, be it good or bad. - Law of attraction states that when you think of good things, good things come to you. Dwell on the bad, depressing or keep giving out negative energy, bad things will happen to you. Ok it sounds like some enlightenment scripture crap so far but here's the awesome part... - You can attract into your life EVERYTHING you have dreamed of if you use The Secret, and use it well. You can have money, looks, love, career, health - ANYTHING. You can even wish for a harem or a spaceship. The secret isn't like religion, it doesn't judge. It doesn't care about whether you are a good person or a paedophile. You just need to follow the instructions. And what are the instructions? You start by asking. You ask the universe for what you want, and it will find a way to deliver it to you. You don't have to figure out how to achieve it, the universe will just GUIDE you there. Don't believe it? When Walt Disney first put pencil to paper and drew a mouse, do you think he ever envisioned or planned the route to movie empires or giant theme parks? No, he had a dream, and the universe made it happen for him. After asking you virtualize, try to imagine yourself already obtaining your wish. Never ever do "negative" wishes ie "I don't want to be poor" because if you keep thinking you are poor, you will constantly be. Change it to "I want to be rich!"...

...What is a secret? A secret is something that is kept or meant to be kept unknown or unseen by others. Secrets can be a good thing or it can be a bad thing. Secrets should only be confided in someone you know and can trust. The secret I had , had the biggest impact on my life . It almost killed me. It was a cold rainy Friday night and all my friends were over. It was my famous sleepover that i had every three months . Everyone knows what goes on at sleepovers. We talk about boys , we share secrets , and watch scary movies! First we watch a couple of scary movies. Then we talked about boys and who we had crushes on . Finally it was time to share secrets! That was best part of the night! We all sat in a circle and started talking about our secrets. It was my friend, Crystal's turn . She had seem distant the whole night . It was almost like she was nervous about something and didn't want to talk. Before she told us her secret she made us promise not to tell anyone her secret so everyone promised. I was anxious to hear what her secret was because she like to keep secrets. She was scared to talk about it at first , but then she begin her story. Crystal's secret was that she killed her dad . Poker Column

...else I invariably feel I’m in an all in situation every time I get in a hand. So I bought for the max. And was hovering right around my buy in for several rounds winning a few losing a few. But hey, my buddy and I were having a few beers and a lot of fun. Something changed though; I started noticing this player acting before me consistently putting in over sized bets in relation to the pot. And each time, all the players seemed to fold to him. He hardly ever raised pre-flop, so he likely had the goods those hands… But those bets didn’t seem right. Why would he bet $50 to win $20 with every player checking to him? The only person calling has him beat right? So I ended up in the big blind and of course I’m dealt the worst hand in poker. I wasn’t thrilled with my hand but hey; I was in the big blind! I already had $2 invested in the hand. And I had my starting $300 so lets see what happens. Three people called until our own Huckleberry($250 in chips) raised to $12. There was one caller before my action and I decided to call. My reasoning? It was $10 into a $33 pot, I was getting 3.3 to 1 on my money and more if the people behind call as well. My luck, they didn’t. So three of us went to the flop, both of which acted after me. UGH! The flop came: I watched the two other players as the flop came out. They didn’t seemed thrilled, I didn’t see any real tells that would leave me to believe they hit the flop. But as I saw I only had a......

Liar's Poker

...Liar’s Poker Like many college graduates in recent years, Michael Lewis aimed at a career in investment banking. Unlike most of the others, Lewis did not take either himself or his ambitions with full seriousness. He majored in art history rather than economics at Yale; and, far from pursuing a career in the bond market with tenacity, he received his job as the result of an accidental meeting during a London dinner. The dinner in question, which Lewis describes with a sharp eye for the ridiculous, was one for the Queen Mother Elizabeth. Lewis found that his job at Salomon Brothers was paradoxical. On the one hand, as an analyst, he was the lowest of the low and often functioned as an errand boy for more senior members of the firm. On the other hand, he had the power to engage in trades that involved millions of dollars. The training program at Salomon Brothers was reputed to be the best in the world and virtually guaranteed its graduates a successful career in the market. Further, the lucrative bonuses available to the analysts meant that men (and a few women) in their mid-twenties might earn several hundred thousand dollars a year. Lewis soon discovered that the job contained many drawbacks. The workload was intense, and many of the analysts developed odd quirks, such as eating binges, as a result of stress. Competition led to frequent attempts to hijack the deals made by others. A veteran of business infighting deprived Lewis of the credit due to him for his most......

The Secret

...THE SECRET by Rhonda Byrne - Reaction Paper The Secret is a book written by Rhonda Byrne, which is known as the best-selling book in 2006. I was amazed when I entered the classroom and found out that we’ll be viewing/watching the DVD about The Secret. I have heard about this documentary since I was in 3rd year college and by this time I finally got the chance to watch a masterpiece. I wanted to watch this since but I never had the chance to because I got so busy with school activities but right now I think I am lucky that I am a part who knows The Secret and I am thankful to know it.  To begin with, The Secret is a life changing, it makes you financially independent, it let your mind powerful and lastly, it will make you successful. The Secret is kept hidden from thousands of people and they let their ignorance spread to people; it was buried, coveted, suppressed and it was never revealed to the public. According to Bob Proctor, a philosopher, the secret gives you anything you want; happiness, health, and wealth. He also said that “we become what we think”, which means whatever we think it predict our future. The law of Attraction is The Secret; what we see, hold, or even our thoughts are equivalent to what we need, want or even demand and it attracts to you. Like what I watched and jotted down, an optimistic thought is a thousand’s more powerful than pessimistic thought. The more you think, the more it will happen because the universe is reacting to what you want;......

Poker Game

...mundane day in the bright city of Manhattan where I awoke to the sound of whistles christening the air, signaling the matrix of commuters riding to work. As I gently moved my fingers across my rugged face, I could feel the wrinkles, as deep as trenches. I live across the scenic Empire State building where my guitar and I rejoice by playing euphonic tunes. I busked for a living and was in need of money. On the odd day, I would save up to play poker, contemplating and hoping one day that it would lead me to immeasurable riches and fortune. The game of poker is a fascinating game, because despite the silence across table I could sense the players’ feelings of frustration, suspicion and anxiety, exacerbated by the stuttering of poker chips. Although I could sense the inner cry of the players, the game itself is quite calm and serene, a place of tranquility, yet there are murmurs. As I strolled towards the opulent casinos, my mind was a blank canvas, apart from the few momentary mental images of my loose game plan and repertoire of poker faces. I walked through mezzanine of the building only to engulf by the surrounding piercing stares of dilettantes. I could feel them conjuring cynical thoughts of an old grimy man, but this did not deter me from goal. As I pulled the lavish gold embossed chair from behind and took my seat, I called nearby waiter and ordered my poisonous liquor of choice. The awkward silence of the room became palpable, like a thick mystic fog on......
