Reflective Essay on 22nd October 2015 Lecture.

At the start of the semester when I registered for this class I thought it would just a walk in the park kind of experience, but I have come to understand that as the course goes on that the class will enable me to interact with other classmates, creating more confidence in me by improving my writing, social and leadership skills. The case study exercise exposed the art of mobilizing others to want to struggle for shared aspirations and also how one person makes a difference in a group. Writing about my personal goals and reflective essay, made me see how much I have improved in my writing and learning. Most of all this class helps me to know more about the role of leadership in supply chain management.

The student leadership challenge as I was made to understand is to help me identify able set of skills and abilities that will enable me to effect a change in my present environment and also in the future. I learned that in group projects that each person is accountable for something in a group and if one person messes up than the whole group gets the consequence of the result. In view of this fact I feel more relaxed knowing that each person in my group knows what they were accountable for and would not let the group down on the job. This has increased my awareness of being accountable on what decisions I make as a future leader.

My critical thinking has become a lot better with having the experience with this class.
Communication is factor that I needed to work on, so that I can speak more fluidly and understanding in front of a crowd or in class. With the case study presentation coming up in a week, I have been practicing on improving my communication skills. I feel more confident in…...

...POLS 432 Dr. Robert Wood Xu Zhao 0886325 Reflective Essay During 16 weeks, I had a lot of fun in this POLS 432 class. I chose this course because it was major required. As an international student, I felt a little scared at the beginning of the semester since I know nothing about the American policy and I don’t have any friends in this class. It took me a while to adapt into this class style. First, we started from Shambaugh/Weinstein book, and the West Wing episodes. Shambaugh/Weinstein book is about introduction of the Art of policymaking process. From the web book description, it says Author Paul J. Weinstein Jr., who was Chief of Staff of the White House Domestic Policy Council during Clinton's administration; he brought a unique and valuable insider's view to the book. This book also provides some real life examples that helped me a lot in reading some of the concepts. For example, I had no idea of how to write a memo when Dr. Robert Wood introduced us different types of memos. After class, I went back home and read the format of a memo and examples related to that memo, I got the idea about what is a memo look like and how to write it. Indeed, I think the time I get to know about what was going on and what this course is about is right before spring break. Dr. Robert Wood was very thankful. The midterm study guide he provided for us helped me a lot about knowing the course materials, especially the White House staff members. I have learned a lot while I......

...Dorsey July 24th, 2013 English 101 Joshua Thusat Reflection Essay When I enrolled into my English 101 class I thought passing the class would be very easy. Previously, I had taken an English 101 class at my old University and received an “A”, so I was highly confident that I would excel in all of my assignments without concerns; I was very mistaken. Every essay that I have done, (except learning logs) I had to re-do because of flaws in my writing. I didn’t believe I had any flaws in my writing when first starting the course, which made me oblivious to my errors. I am so relieved that I didn’t proceed to English 102 without taking this course. Enrolling in this class has helped me grow as a writer. By understanding my strong areas and what areas I need to work on, I feel more confident writing my essays. Not only did I grow as a writer, I really enjoyed the environment of the classroom. I always felt positive energy from not only my teacher, but my peers as well. It made my learning experience enjoyable yet very informal. I absolutely loved that the classroom is very diverse; full of people from various countries with different outlooks on life. I appreciated hearing everyone’s opinions about certain topics, and the respect everyone showed one another when speaking about sensitive subjects such as racism. Having a respectable teacher and classmates really made the tone of our class worth being a part of. At my previous university I had classes with at least two hundred......

...REFLECTIVE ESSAY FOR MARKETING, INNOVATION AND DESIGN Reflective writing is an intricate process of inscription, what one learned from a particular area and how it would be useful in the future. In my reflection I would construct an assertive image of what exactly happened during the marketing module. Looking at the outcome of my reasons to pursue my MBA, my strengths, and the areas I want to improve on. The marketing, development and Innovations module has the learning and developing goals for me as I see a clear need to reintegrate into the learning environment, since I do not have a first degree, I was exempted because of my eight years of management experience. Being part of a working world and doing a MBA means that I would be faced with many challenges, personally, professionally and educationally. However, I embraced the challenge even at times it was difficult to juggle my commitments. Initially my thoughts were that marketing module was simply about sales, however, it was mainly about Innovation and design. From the first lecture, the main thing that attracted me towards marketing was the efficient teaching style of the Lecturer, practically the way of explanation, teaching methods and the learning tools that the lecturer used which were mainly power point slides, which was then emailed to the class. The Lecturer motivated and encouraged me, this factor has positively contributed to the amount of interest I formed towards the subject. The marketing module......

...Reflective Essay on Transactional Leadership By Veronica Gordon Faculty of Education & Liberal Studies University of Technology, Jamaica October 10, 2013 Introduction In any enterprise, educational institution, hospital, political organization, or even family, there is a need for a dynamic leader to emerge. This leader is expected to give quality leadership as it relates to the need of the organization and its stakeholders. Some persons have been aroused by ideas and have used these ideas practically resulting in inspiring others to follow. It was White (1962) who stated that, “No one man should feel that he must do the whole work. However experienced or qualified he may be, there is need of other talents to unite with his.” Though the definition of leadership may be contested, Bernard Bass (1990) defined leadership as the focus of group processes, as a matter of personality, as a matter of inducing compliance, as the exercise of influence, as particular behaviors, as a form of persuasion, as a power relation, as an instrument to achieve goals, as an effect of interaction, as a differentiated role, as initiation of structure, and as many combinations of these definitions. Stogdill (1984) postulated that leadership is the process of influencing group activities toward goal setting and achievement. Effective leaders recognize that their ability to influence largely......

...Bowie English 102 Reflective Essay Reflection English 102 has brought a really great point to me in life that no matter what class you are in you have to think creative. In the entire course there was nothing but writing. I can honestly say English 102 has taught me to be a better researcher and a better writer. The writing for me was super hard in the beginning of the course. I have never seen myself as a writer I suffer from an extreme case of writer’s block which causes me to give up without giving a shot at the work. The extra help has made me feel as writing will never shy away from you in life so just write. The annotated references played a big role throughout the course this semester. The role annotated references had been the whole outline of this course without the annotated I had nothing to write about. First I struggled with the concept of the references I realized that there wasn’t a research paper without the references. The references were one of the most time consuming aspect of the paper. The research question had to have a connection towards the refernces The difficulty I encountered in English 102 came about from the grasping of the material, the details in the rubric, and the guide lines. The biggest thing I had a problem with was staying on topic, and giving too much of my personal opinion in my writing. The structure of the class is made to stay on top of your independence of the reading and writing. During the course of the class there were......

Ideally, some of these situations have greatly impacted on my understanding of various patients who I handle on my day-to-day activities in the health care sector. While working with District Nurses who are involved with visiting patients in various homes in the community, I encountered patients with various psychological and physiological disorders. Prudently, it is worthwhile to note that the patients who we visited had various health problems that ranged from individuals who were housebound and could not travel to seek medical attention. Besides, some of the patients had nursing needs such as leg ulcer dressing, wound dressing, pressure ulcer dressings, and catheter insertion as well as its removal. Description One of the most complex situations that I experienced was trying to take blood from an elderly patient with dementia. Since the patient was at her residential home and had never seen me before, she was not aware of my main purpose for visiting. Moreover, I had no prior knowledge of her state with dementia. ...Reflective Essay I actually remember doing something similar to this my junior year in high school, the assignment was entitled “Me as a Writer.” How far have I truly come as a writer since then? Focusing on what this class has taught me, I can already say without any doubt that my writing has improved compared to what it was my first day of college. There were so many aspects of this class that positively influenced me as a writer. To name just a few: the discussion board, the assigned readings, and you as the instructor. The discussion board made me more open to criticism, it taught me that in order to become a good writer you must first learn to be a good communicator. You have to be able to communicate your ideas with others and listen to the ideas of others. It’s a sort of give and take process. Before, I was more closed minded on other people’s input on my work, I thought I could do just fine by myself for the most part. Now, I’m willing to listen to criticism and I understand how to use that criticism in order to better my writings. The readings were also super beneficial to my development as a writer. I learned so much about how to be an effective writer. I learned how to use certain techniques to improve the quality of my work. The readings allowed me to take a step back and see the art of writing as a whole, and then allowed me to focus in on specific characteristics of writing. For example, Kleine’s article taught me that I needed to become a more balanced......

...This essay highlights the difficulties and the eminent conflicts that me and my group members faced while working on the assignment, for which we had to interview a business personality. The theme of our assignment was ‘SUCCESS IN BUSINESS’. This was really an appealing challenge for me as I was introduced to this type of quality education for the first time in my life, and had to undergo a series of procedures which were advised by my lecturer. The lecturer divided the whole class in groups of four or five and wanted us to work on this assignment as a team, which was a great thought as we were entering the first phase of our professional life. All of my group members were new to each other, all with different mindsets, views, and lifestyles; the only thing that was common among us more or less was the education we had, the level of enthusiasm that we shared and the notes provided by the lecturer to help us accomplish our task. The first and the most important task that our group faced was to have a sober but an eye-catching name for our group so as to represent ourselves in front of the whole class, all of the group members came out with different ideas and wanted their pick to be the group name, being the team leader I was trying to brainstorm all of the incredible names that we had in our minds for the group, but soon their was a conflict arising because of the difference of opinions, at last we rationalized our options and hammered out in favour of ‘BUSINESS GIANTS’......

...Module 6 Reflective Essay Prior into taking this course, I always been confused growing up in what’s the difference between psychology and sociology. Without a doubt, this class has put a spin on what’s the difference. I knew a lot about the social world we lived in and how it affected our daily lives but never thought that there was so many ways it has done so. As I look at our daily living and the difference terms that is associated to sociology I have learn in this short period that the social side is a big circle that interacts with each other. But how do we learn to live in it and survive in it. If we are educating ourselves on the structure of our its affecting us daily, maybe our world won’t be so bad. As I mentioned in the tread, I think what caught my attention and put everything in a perspective was the primary and secondary groups. When you ask us to list what we belong too and how it affects our daily lives. That assignment allowed me to see what part I actually play in the social side of society and obvious it’s a pretty important side, whether I’m helping society or the one that can be causing the problems. I learned the importance of the two groups and how it affects me and the ones around me, the involvement in the community, the involvement among my appears. My insight and what and who I belong affects someone and or something everyday. How we look at it, is what’s important. But we as a society are not educated on our problems and issues and......

...Reflective Essay Before I returned to school, after taking an almost 15 year hiatus, I had been told by several people that psychology was boring. I found the opposite to be quite true. Quite a few questions that I have had over the past decade were answered as well as ones that I never realized I wanted to learn the answers to. I learned a lot of new things and I thoroughly enjoyed it. While discussing ‘Biology of Mind’, I found that the brain structure had me on the edge of my seat. While I enjoy learning how and why things work the way they do, I feel that the brain caught my attention. A few weeks prior to the spring semester beginning, my uncle had a severe brain injury due to a tree falling on him. After I was told about his new behavior, I was at an advantage as to understand why there was such a drastic change. I was able to understand that his limbic system was affected. He was very aggressive and angry toward the staff at the hospital which was caused from the damage to his amygdala. He also displayed damage to each brain hemisphere, some symptoms were more severe than others. The damage to his frontal lobe caused him to try to leave the hospital every chance he could, not able to resist the urge to stay. Within approximately two weeks after the accident he struggled to recognize family and friends caused from damage to his occipital lobe. He also suffered from short-term memory loss which is an effect of damage to his parietal lobe....

...REFLECTIVE ESSAY #2 During the past weeks, I had two lessons stand out for me, suicide awareness and wingman concepts. I think with my current career field these two lessons play a massive part in our day to day work environment. With the long hours and hard work, we have lost several to suicide and all of them could have been prevented by proper use of the wingman concept. As for wingman concept, if it was used more often than it is now, we would have less suicides and even alcohol related instances through out the maintenance field. For me suicide is a very rough and heart felt topic to talk about. Even harder to listen too as it hits home very hard. I lost my father when I was two years old to a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head, and now less then a year ago my ex wife shot herself due to her feeling like a failure to be a good wife and mother. With the suicide awareness lesson and the plethora of information that is brought to light, it now allows me to further understand why people often choose suicide and more over the signs leading up to it. If I had this knowledge a year ago, I would have been able to possibly prevent her attempt to take her life. Looking back to the months leading up to her attempted suicide, she had shown several signs that I did not pick up on as I was oblivious and didn’t look for any of the signs that would lead up to the incident. After going through the lesson in class and doing the readings, I can say she showed the following signs:...

...Reflective Essay Beginning Teaching Experiences My teaching experiences have been quite varied. I began my career as a high school business education teacher in a small rural Midwestern school. Because there were only two teachers in the department, I taught a wide variety of courses. The small setting enabled me to get to know several of the students and faculty quite well and working with students at this age level helped me develop skills in organization and motivation. I found that it was important to have enough material for the entire class period because many students at this age do not seem to know what to do with free time. I was taught a very valuable lesson during my tenure at this school, although I didn’t realize it at the time. At the end of the accounting course I was teaching, students were required to complete a practice set. A practice set is a simulated exercise where students become bookkeepers for a hypothetical company. They have the opportunity to work through the entire accounting cycle—from opening the accounts as the business begins its daily operations to closing them out at the end of the business’ fiscal period. Students are required to record daily transactions, write checks, and prepare financial reports. It is a mammoth project and takes a lot of time both in class and out of class. Students were told that it would count for a large percentage of their semester grade and that if there were cheating, all involved would......

...Reflective Essay During semester one, I found university very difficult as I am currently having a lot of family problems, consequently I have had to balance university life with a part time job and regular tips home, (which is down south). I am very disappointed with my grades for semester one, as I am hoping to graduate with a 2.1 next year. Having failed this module, I have assessed my current situation and have come up with some solutions to ensure it does not happen again. Firstly, my attendance for the module was not of a satisfactory level, having had to go home frequently during term time I missed the ‘short talk’ and grading on participation. In order to amend this, I will only be going home out of term time, unless exceptional circumstances arise. During future seminars I hope to get involved in class discussions, as I feel this will further develop my knowledge and understanding and help me achieve high grades in coursework and exams. In regards to my part time job, working at a busy city centre bar I often do not get in from work till the early hours of the next day, and so I have cut down my hours to just two weekend nights. I feel that by doing so It will enable me to study during the week, and take the time I need to do further reading around the subjects and get a head on any coursework. To help me further, I have invested in a diary and also devised a timetable, this consists of each module I am studying for the semester, reading that needs to be......
