U06A1 - Researching and Reviewing Privacy Policies

...National Clearing House as the delivery service of transcript requests. While researching the privacy policies of Docufide and National Clearing House as I target how they compare and how they use the customer (students’) information they collect, I found that both include four major issues that relate to the “Fair Information Principles”. Both policies give notice of the information practices before collecting data. The choice is given on how the information will be collected and if the information can be used. Both Docufide and National Clearing House give access to their consumers to contest accuracy and completeness of data collected about them and lastly both companies take “reasonable steps” to assure the customers that the information is secure from unauthorized use. Both policies are explicit to the fact that they will not “sell, rent, provide or otherwise share individual information generated…” from the use of the site or setting up an account with the companies’ site; except for the instances they disclosed in the policy. Both of the companies on some instances within the policies will use personal information collected to send information about the company, products and services and to contact the customer (student) when necessary and to inform the educational institutions and students about their records. Both policies go into to explain that “de-identified” forms of students’ information will be used for statistical purposes and to help with monitoring......

Researching Human Services Agencies

...Shakiera Reid-Taylor Professor Milicent Driver HSM/210 February 3, 2014 Checkpoint: Researching Human Service Agencies In the Baltimore City area two of the most popular human service agencies include the Housing Authority of Baltimore City and Department of Social Services. The Housing Authority of Baltimore City focuses on the homeless and low income demographic by providing housing needs to low income families within the inner society to help promote self-sufficiency through providing safe, affordable, and decent housing to its tenants. The Department of Social Services meets various food, income, childcare, and family support needs by serving the elderly, homeless, low income, and disabled demographic. Over time society has influenced both agency’s decisions to meet the needs of the demographic needs by helping to identify what the current socio-economic needs are in each community. The difference I observed in the ways each agencies attempts to meet human needs is that The Department of Social Services offers immediate help, while the Housing Authority does not. Overall each agency is somewhat successful in meeting the needs of its demographic group. Both agencies are federally funded and with the surplus of demand for social service assistance programs offered by each agency are often discontinued or on “freeze’. For example, the Housing Authority has no longer been accepting applications for its housing choice voucher program formerly known as section 8......

Researching Human Service Agencies

...Researching Human Service Agencies HUM/210 August 21, 2013 Hector Smith Researching Human Service Agencies In the field of social services you try to meet all the people and family’s needs to help them. Create social and physical environments that promote good health for all. Promote quality of life, healthy development, and healthy behaviors across all life stages. Attain high-quality, longer lives free of preventable disease, disability, injury, and premature death. Achieve health equity, eliminate disparities, and improve the health of all groups. (Healthy People.gov) This is a field that I choose because I would like to give back in the communities. Each year they do a survey on different demographic new illnesses and injuries reported the nature of the disabling condition, and the event and source producing that condition for cases that involve one or more days away from work. Survey estimates of occupational injuries and illnesses are based on a scientifically selected probability sample of establishments, rather than a census of all establishments. Each January, an independent sample is selected for each state and the District of Columbia. Establishments in the sample are instructed to maintain lists of injuries and illnesses and to track days away from work, restricted, or transferred using the OSHA Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses. An occupational injury is any injury that results from a work-related event or from a single instantaneous......

...could be reported as an unusual or infrequent item on income statement, and disclosed appropriately in the notes. The $1 million could also be reported as an operating expense on the income statement. I recommend that the $1 million be classified as an operating expense on the income statement with no disclosure, due to the fact that Tenth National Bank was unaware of the asbestos and subsequently is was not reported to Tenth National Bank by the previous owners of the shopping mall. However, there is the need for Due Diligence. If a company fails to properly report environmental liabilities, the responsible parties expose themselves to future claims that the financial statements did not have adequate disclosure of all material information. Conversely, though, if the financial statements do contain specific presentation of the exposure for environmental cleanup, it is possible that outsider parties who might not have been aware of these problems may be able to more readily press claims for the cost of cleanup plus additional damages. Given this dilemma, it appears that due diligence is the operative word. Management must apply appropriate due diligence when it acquires property, when it monitors its operations and disposal methods, and when it discovers an environmental problem. While companies may seek to avoid the accrual or disclosure requirements, it is unquestionably true that these issues can only become more significant in the future. Thus, it behooves......

Researching Business Models and Products

...Michael Eng Module 1 Discussion Assignment 1: Researching Business Models & Products Research: Independent Chocolatiers 1. Rausch http://www.rausch.de/en/ Rausch really caught my eye. The product that I liked the most is the chocolates made and sold in the form of cigars. However, the individual products are not what inspired me the most. It is the history of the company and what I perceive to be their expertise in manufacturing and quality that appeals to me. Rausch began in 1918 and it would seem to me that the Rausch family members are experts in all aspects of chocolate production from Cacao seed to finished product. They have photos on their website that depict how they used to make chocolate decades ago. There is also a feeling of their company being very European high-class since they have been around so long and I know that strong traditions are important with the German people. This is what differentiated Raush from many of the other chocolatiers. Even though I have never tasted a Rausch chocolate; buying Rausch chocolates seems to add a touch of class. I don’t really see a most important product that they produce. They produce a lot of chocolate bars like many chocolatiers. I think that Rausch does a great job convincing potential buyers that they really know their stuff and their chocolates are superior. I would most like to emulate Rausch’s operation although I don’t think I have enough time to develop Rausch’s reputation. 2. ......

Researching Dealers and Smuggler

...studying them,” Patricia A. Adler, the author of “Researching Dealers and Smugglers” and her husband Peter decided to study this subject more in depth. A legitimate motivation the author might have had for researching the subject is the significant boom that this research could have to her professional career, because she would offer a completely new perspective of drug trafficking. While studying and analyzing the drug dealers, Mrs. Adler and her husband took a different approach. She felt that past researchers all did the same mistake: they usually wanted to understand the world of criminals from their own perspective. This means that they usually tried to obtain information in a very systematic and distant way, without taking risks or dealing directly with the people involved. The problem with this is that that way the information obtained is not necessarily correct, and it may be vague and not concrete. Dealers may not feel comfortable enough to reveal such safe and risky information to anyone. They may think that the information revealed may be used against them, or that the purpose behind the research is to capture them, fool them, or even blackmail them. So to cover themselves they may give out false information and lies about their actions, movements, and crimes. In contrast, if information is obtained form an insider’s perspective, and the researcher becomes someone the smuggler or dealer can trust, the information will certainly be more accurate, honest, and......
