Rigs vandring 1.
Gengiv kort handlingen i digtet i gruppen.

However, the industry has a very poor reputation for managing risk, with many major projects failing to meet deadlines and cost targets. This is influenced greatly by variations in weather, productivity of labor and plant, and quality of material. All too often, risks are either ignored, or dealt with in a completely arbitrary way: simply adding 10 per cent contingency onto the estimated cost of a project is typical. In a business as complex as construction, such an approach is often inadequate, resulting in expensive delays, litigation, and even bankruptcy (2001). For this reason, this Risk Management Plan for the construction and deployment of a deep-water oil rig......

Ingen at leve for mere. Deep Water Horion Oil Spill

...to heed safety precautionary measures. 4). Who was responsible for the safety of the rig? Transocean owned the drilling rig and BP leased the land so they were both responsible for the equipment. BP in not reporting equipment failure and shutting down temporary, and Transocean’s with not doing regular checks and maintenance on their equipment. Drilling rigs are in operation around the clock, and 3 crews are needed to cover each rig.  (One crew takes the day shift, another the night shift and the third crew is between shifts, on days off). The Leasehand performs general labor and maintenance tasks around the rig site, such as helping to dig drainage ditches and to grease equipment. Some rig crews do not have Leasehands. On these crews, the entry level position is the Floor-hand. Floor hand (aka Roughneck)    The Floorhand handles the drill pipe on the rig floor. Some rigs will have 2 Floor hands. A Floorhand’s responsibilities also include equipment maintenance, mixing mud and chemicals and assisting other crew-members. Rig Manager: The Rig Manager is the senior supervisor on site and is in complete charge of the rig. The Rig Manager is responsible for the rig crews, the equipment and the overall operation. The Rig Manager’s direction and leadership keeps the operation running smoothly. There seems to be a lot of individuals that will be held responsible for the rig so I do believe it would trickle on down. 5). How can safety be part of an......

Essay Mal

Biologi

Management Evaluation of Bp Deep Horizon Rig Explosion

...Summary: On April 20th 2010, the United States faced not only on of its largest environmental disasters but the biggest offshore oil spill in its history. Off the Gulf of Mexico a large oil rig, Deepwater Horizon, operated by British Petroleum, exploded killing 11 employees and leaking an estimated 4.9 million gallon of crude oil into the ocean. Furthermore, the explosion caused a subsequent fire resulting in the ultimate sinking of the Deepwater Horizon. Although this disaster was accidental there were many warning signs that BP neglected which could have prevented it. To begin with, the construction of the underwater drilling pipelines were shoddy and a vital valve was installed backwards. Consequently the pipelines became brittle, full of cracks, and flooded. In addition, equipment readings, internal documents from BP engineers, and other red flags warned that the rig wasn’t operating correctly and that there was potential for a dangerous explosion. However, all these signs were ignored and not addressed as threats by managers. In an effort to avoid incurring costs and to maximize profit, BP cut corners and underestimated the importance of safety. After initial investigations it became clear that BP not only missed significant signs but staff did not have proper training, maintenance of the rig was inferior, and overall BP lacked formalized emergency responses and a safety culture. As a result BP has undergone strict investigations by the U.S Justice Department and a......

Fresh Salad Case Study

...salads and fresh sandwiches. * The harvesting rigs The company has developed specialised machinery to assist in the harvest of millions of Iceberg lettuces every year. Each of the company’s six Iceberg lettuce picking machines (known as ‘rigs’) is a large mobile factory which is mechanically powered to move very slowly across the enormous lettuce fields, at a speed and direction controlled by the supervisor using a simple joystick control. The rig runs on caterpillar tracks which allows it to cross the soft, deep peaty soils on which lettuces thrive. However, in very wet conditions, this very heavy piece of equipment can get stuck and may need assistance from an additional crawler tractor. At the very back of the rig is attached an open-fronted road trailer, into which the trays of packed lettuces are carried and stacked. This trailer can be released when full, and attached to a four-wheel drive tractor for subsequent transportation to the company’s local cold store. Another trailer is then connected in its place to allow picking to continue uninterrupted. Each crew (picking team) comprises 17 people and a supervisor; there are nine cutters, five packers and three people preparing cardboard trays, labelling the individual supermarket lettuces and carrying completed trays and crates to the trailers. The supervisor, who is fully responsible for product quality and output of the rig, also provides assistance at any point on the rig to relieve any short-term bottleneck......

Case Study the Oil Rig

...The Oil Rig A U.S. drilling company operates three rigs in Angola and the “Explorer IV” rig is one of them. A small jack-up is set up to house a crew of 150 men, of whom 30 are American expatriates and 120 are local works. However, there are a lot of disparities of their living conditions including space, food and medical care. For example, the quarters for the local workers are about the same size as the quarters for American expatriates. Also, expatriates will be taken to Luanda for medical surgery if seriously injured, but Angolans can only be treated on the rig by a medic. Moreover, several regulations prohibit Angolan workers from entering the Expat section. The ethical issues in this case are: first, is it ok to treat the American expatriates and Angolan workers so differently? If so, to what extent is it acceptable? From a view of legal standpoint, there is no legal issue existed based on the article, nor does the writer have any knowledge about the written laws that prevent the oil company of doing so. In the “categorical imperative” principle, Kant states that “One ought only to act such that the principle of one’s act could become a universal law of human action in a world in which one would hope to live”. He also thinks that “One ought to treat others as having intrinsic value in themselves, and not merely as means to achieve one’s ends”. However, in the case, the disparities between local workers and Americans indicate clearly that the Angolans are treated...

Cat & Joe's Pig Rig

...forecast was too high, he would be left with excess food that would need to be donated. Bell and Fergus write that Joe liked the feeling of donating food to the local soup kitchen, yet having a lot of leftovers meant that he was forecasting inefficiently. Cat and Joe need to forecast their break-even points in conjunction with the estimated number of patrons for the day. Doing this will allow them to track their profit during the operational year, efficiently forecast the amount of meat and sides necessary for the day, and to estimate the proper order levels with their suppliers. 2c. If Cat and Joe wish to make $100,000 profit for the year (after tax), how many pulled pork sandwiches must the Pig Rig sell each day? Assume all days are in Kamloops at regular prices. The Pig Rig’s target unit sales volume per day required to earn $100,000 in after-tax profit is detailed in Table C below. Table C: Sales Volume Equating to $100,000 in After-tax Profit Fixed costs per year: $10,000 Selling price per sandwich: $12 Variable cost per sandwich: $4.80 Desired profit: $100,000 Tax rate: 20% Before-tax profit needed: $125,000 Contribution margin per sandwich: $7.20 Target unit sales volume per year: 18750.00 Target unit sales volume per day: 104.17, rounded to 105 If Cat and Joe wish to earn $100,000 in after-tax profit, they must first earn $125,000 in before-tax profit. Buad 304 Team Case Analysis

...- Use Fiedler model to reallocate manager's to each different rig - Recognize each rig as self-managed team and use organization support system ~ Team-based performance measures ~ Manager to have authority and responsibility for drinking - Adopt mandatory safety educational program for manager Opening up the Rig # 22 is very significant issue for Brinkeroff in that it is trying to increase its profit while taking significant risk. Therefore, its initial plan of assigning Kurt as the manager came to be the problem for the company with the incident happened with Kurt, Rick and Rig # 20. There are few possibilities for solution: - Using Fiedler's contingency model, we could possibly reassign the manager into different rig. First of all, since besides the drinking problem in Rig 1-E, Rick seems to be quite capable of brining team members together and manage the team efficiency quite well, with his relationship-oriented trait and understand quite well of how rig should be managed. Also, the company recognized his ability and initially wanted to promote him before the incident, so he can be assigned to be the manager of the Rig # 22, which is very important business decision for the company. Second of all, Tom Rossick, the manager of Rig #20, who has some problem in coordinating the team members together and has trait of task-orientation, can be assigned to the Rig 1-E, which is managed by Rick and has high leader-member relation, high task structure and position power...
