There are a few possible causes of actions that Ms. Shewin could file a case under. Ms. Shewin is over 40 years of age and has the educational qualifications as well as the experience for the position of junior editor, however was passed over for the job. The position was given to a 26-year-old male from outside the company.
Facts:
Ima Shewin is a 45-year-old African-American woman with advanced degrees in English and journalism from the University of Chicago. She has been employed by The Blabber, a newspaper in Atlanta, Georgia, for 10 years. She started as an entry- level researcher. Two years later, she was promoted to a junior-level reporter position, and two years after that, to a senior-level reporter position. She has now been a senior-level reporter for the last six years.
During the first eight years of her employment, Shewin reported to George Doright.
...
Since then, Shewin has reported to Arthur King, The Blabber's senior editor.
...
Although Shewin applied for these positions, they were not offered to her. In fact, she was only invited to interview for one of the positions, although she believes she met the qualifications for both.
Last month, she applied for a junior-editor position she has been after for several years now. Based upon the qualifications that were identified in the job's classified ad, she felt she was a shoo-in. She applied and was interviewed.
...
King started out the conversation by engaging in seemingly harmless social banter, but Shewin was uncomfortable with his personal questions about her relationship with her boyfriend.
...
Also, prior to Mr. Doright's transfer, Shewin filed a complaint against some of her male colleagues.
...
Although they did not make these comments directly to Shewin, the conversations were quite loud and she overheard them regularly. After several months of hoping they would stop,…...

...Memo To: Clients From: CC: Firm CPA’s Date: Re: SAS 112- Statement of Accounting Standards In May of 2006, the AICPA Auditing Stands Board published the SAS-112 in previous years there where changes made to the auditing standards that had an effect on the auditing procedures performed on financial statements. Fina 301: Sherwin-Williams Example

...FINA 301: SHERWIN-WILLIAMS EXAMPLE Supporting Information for Financial Analysis Exercise III Part A: This first part of the exercise asks you to select one of four company stocks and apply the constant- growth model in an attempt to value a share of that stock. Here is the equation for the model, Equation 8-6 in the second edition of the textbook: P0 = = , where P0 = current price of the stock D0 = dividend per share at the end of the last period D1 = dividend per share at the end of period 1 i = discount rate g = constant growth rate We need to find values for the variables in this equation in order to solve for P0. The discount rate is given to us at 12.5%. So we need to find values for D0, g, and D1. The last variable equals [D0,∙ (1 + g)], so we are left to find only D0 and g. D0 is a historical number. We will look for this number for Sherwin Williams at Yahoo! Finance using data accessed in 2009 for this example: a. At http://finance.yahoo.com/ enter SHW in the input field next to Get Quotes at the top of the page and click Get Quotes to open the stock’s overview/main page. b. Click on Historical Prices under the heading “Quotes” on the left hand-side of the main/overview......

...Luis Cubilla ENG/221 Technical Writing Fundamentals Zachery Koppelmann January 28 2013 The organization of the memo from Hugh to Abram is partially organized. Hugh does not stray from his subject much and appears to stay on point with what he wants to address. The letter has an average format with a standard intro body and conclusion along with a signature which should be included in all e-mails. The clarity however leaves little to be desired for but at least Hugh admits that he does not understand his own employee or his friend. Hugh talks about how he was advised not to use certain enterprise software’s with by his friend and how he could not understand much of how the situation should be handled or how he should move forward with his business plans. The writing style is very unprofessional; it almost seems more like Hugh is writing to a friend rather than a co-worker or colleague. There are no real formalities Abram is only addressed by name once and the overall feel looks like something a brother would write to his family member. The memo seemed to be a little disrespectful in some ways. First Hugh is talking business matters with a friend rather than Abram, secondly it appears Hough’s friend is providing the basic of warnings that any programmer should look for but Hugh appears to be leaning towards his friend’s advice rather than Abram who as Hough states “respects his professional approach”. To add further insult to injury Abram has been asked to not...

...T.C. Memo. 2009-93 UNITED STATES TAX COURT THOMAS J. WOODY, Petitioner v. COMMISSIONER OF INTERNAL REVENUE, Respondent Docket No. 30077-07. Filed April 30, 2009. P alleges that during tax year 2004 he had a real estate investment and rental business. P deducted expenses associated with this activity as business expenses under I.R.C. sec. 162. R disallowed the business expense deductions. On the basis of this disallowance, R determined a deficiency in P’s Federal income tax for 2004. P petitioned this Court for redetermination of that deficiency. Held: P was not actively engaged in a real estate investment and rental business when he incurred and paid the expenses he deducted as Schedule C business expenses in 2004. Therefore, the costs P deducted are pre-operational start-up expenditures and may not be deducted as business expenses under I.R.C. sec. 162. - 2 Bruce E. Gardner, for petitioner. Scott L. Little, for respondent. MEMORANDUM FINDINGS OF FACT AND OPINION GUSTAFSON, Judge: This case is before the Court on petitioner Thomas J. Woody’s petition for redetermination of his Federal income tax deficiency for 2004 which the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) determined to be $4,955. ...Pa205 Unit 8 (Natalie Attired Memo) Memorandum To: (Senior Partner) From: Date: Subject: Natalie Attired Unemployment Compensation Claim Office File: PA205 Statement of Facts: Natalie Attired began employment with Biddy’s Tea House in May, 2009. During her employment, Natalie received four evaluations, which improved consistently and showed no reprimands. There is no employee manual or written policy about employee conduct. In June 2010, Natalie purchased a full-sleeve tattoo which covered the entire upper right arm, the lower portion of which could be seen below the short sleeve uniform. The owner, Ms. Baker told Natalie that if she did not remove the tattoo she would be fired. Natalie refused to remove the tattoo, worked the rest of the week and was given her termination notice on Friday. Ms. Baker was unable to provide proof of a decline in sales during Natalie’s employment, but provided names of two customers who requested to be moved from Natalie’s section due to the tattoo. Natalie filed for unemployment compensation in July 2010, which was denied on the grounds that she was terminated for “misconduct” and was therefore ineligible for benefits. Questions presented: 1. Whether Ms. Attired’s failure to remove her tattoo when instructed to do so by her employer constitutes “misconduct” as defined by N.M. Stat. Ann. §51-1-7. 2.

...MEMO IE Business school Saturday, October 3rd 2015 Dear Santiago Iñiguez de Onzoño, My name is Sami and I have recently joined the MIM program for the September 2015 intake. I would like to constructively comment on the introductory weeks for this program and highlight some important details you may take into account for next year’s intake. I believe that this part of the program is very important and key to build a successful year ahead. First of all, I think that the 2 weeks introductory workshops were too long and sometimes got really boring and repetitive. my recommendation is to compress the pre-program to one week instead of two, that way students will get exposed to the MIM structure and will get to know each other before the start of the 1st module. In addition, some of the workshops we attended were very long lectures like the cross cultural workshop for example. I would recommend to include some interactive exercises where students could present themselves and reflect their background to the rest of the class. In that way students would me more familiar with each other’s cultures and can get the opportunity to bond and feel comfortable during the opening week of the program. Furthermore, Some sessions extended over the course of two days like the entrepreneurship workshop for example, in my opinion a single day is enough to introduce the concept of entrepreneurship to the students specially because they will be learning all about it......
