Transaction Processing System of Riordan Manufacturing Riordan Manufacturing is a global plastics manufacturer who is an industry leader in the field of plastic injection molding. They produce everything plastic from plastic containers, fans, plastic bottles and even heart valves and stents. With the amount of goods being shipped every day a critical information system is the transaction processing system (TPS) to keep track of the inventory in house as well as the products being shipped to the customer. A transaction processing system is one of the most important information systems because it is the building block from which the other systems receive their information. Without a transaction processing system management information systems, decision support systems, and enterprise resource planning, would not have the data needed to analyze to make the correct decisions in their systems. Transaction processing systems are used within a company to monitor and process large amounts of data used on a day to day basis. Companies will use a TPS to when processing orders, purchasing materials, updating inventory and accounts payable and received. After reviewing Riordan’s inventory management, they are using transaction processing system to keep their raw materials updated in the system. At the end of the day the receiving area supervisor will give the log of raw materials and associated shipping documents to the receiving clerk to enter into the inventory system. This system will keep track of all of the materials and inventory available for use in the factory. From there the raw materials are taken out of inventory and the manufacturing staff will complete an inventory usage form to show the amount of materials taken from the inventory. The inventory clerk will then enter the…...

Separation of Duties at Riordan Manufacturing

...Separation of Duties at Riordan Manufacturing James Shoemaker CMGT 430 August 20, 2012 Bradley Andrews   Separation of Duties at Riordan Manufacturing Identifying and managing risk is a key to the survival of every organization that has more than one or two people involved in the day-to-day activities. Anytime that an organization allows an opportunity for a single user to perform more than one task or function that requires checks and balances the opportunity for loss to the organization exists. The proper management of risk by the organization will at the very least minimize financial losses to the company and in most cases increase profits. A review of the current processed in place at Riordan Manufacturing’s different locations has led to the recommendation that Riordan Manufacturing needs to establish new policies that provide for Separation of duties within the different departments of the organization. By definition, separation of duties is a key concept of internal controls and is the most difficult and sometimes the most costly one to achieve. This objective is achieved by disseminating the tasks and associated privileges for a specific security process among multiple people (Coleman, 2008). Separation of duty, as it relates to security, has two primary objectives. The first is the prevention of conflict of interest, the appearance of conflict of interest, wrongful acts, fraud, abuse, and errors. The second is the detection of control failures that......

...Riordan Manufacturing Executive Summary ABCO Consulting thanks the Riordan organization for allowing us to do this upgrade analysis. A review of the existing infrastructure at Riordan has been completed and the findings are contained in this document. There will be a listing of what was found followed by a proposed upgrade system layout. The scope of this project is to cover the following systems and subsystems and to explain how they all interact one with another. Finance & Accounting Identify and describe existing system: Riordan’s Manufacturing’s Accounting Services division is responsible for overseeing all financial processes within the company. Everything from AR, AP, payroll, General Ledger, purchasing, inventory controls, metrics, and employee payroll processing has been managed by team of well-qualified members who have demonstrated utmost professionalism for many years. In addition to these many time-consuming tasks, strict quarterly audits are also conducted throughout the company on a regular basis, most of which have met or exceeded industry standards. Therefore, the issue here the company faces is not one of quality, but rather one of efficiency. To date, many of the systems and procedures in place, while affective, are not as streamline or as consistent as they could be. Still others (e.g. audits), although effective, are taking weeks to complete when most similar operations today can finalize internal audits in a matter of......

With the equipment needs, implementation requirements, and workflow clearly understood these are describe in more detail in order to design the appropriate system. The designing itself is accomplished after many interviews in order to capture the real needs, by using flowcharts, scale models, and even some process simulation software (Dennis, Wixom, & Ruth, 2012). A client server architecture services would be beneficial for Riordan being that this nonfunctional requirement could have more benefits than a server based or client server. Riordan Manufacturing Business System Proposal

...Riordan Manufacturing Business System Proposal Paul Belanger, Aaron Ledger, Dacia Faulk, Ian Westerfield, Jennifer Gallaway University of Phoenix Introduction Being the industry leader in polymer materials and per our mission statement, Riordan Manufacturing must remain in step with industry trends. In order to effectively attain this objective, we must acclimatize, embrace, and take advantage of new and innovative technologies. In addition to identifying existing systems employed within the company that are in need of upgrades, the remainder of this paper will also address new systems as well as sub-systems needed and present a brief summary of why these systems would be advantageous to the future of Riordan Manufacturing. Finance and Accounting Overview Riordan manufacturing employs nine basic finance and accounting subsystems globally and three additional subsystems at the San Jose, California corporate headquarters. The atmosphere of interoperability between each of Riordan’s offices (California, Georgia, Michigan, and China) is at best hostile. At present, each operating entity has its own finance and accounting system resulting in a number of inefficiencies due to company-wide systems incompatibility, a lot of which stems from the Michigan and Georgia acquisition. To better establish potential interoperability between existing subsystems, it is first necessary to define the current subsystems of each Riordan office, existing software solutions, and how......

Riordan Manufacturing Systems

...Riordan Manufacturing Systems BSA/375 October 6, 2014 Riordan Manufacturing Systems Hugh McCauley, COO, has submitted a service request for the Human Resources (HR) department to integrate the department's current systems into one integrated application. Mr. McCauley is the main point of contact for this project. The systems analyst has reviewed the service request and studied a listing of what systems are currently in place. Using the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology, the analyst should complete the request within the six month time frame requested by Mr. McCauley. Completing this request on time will allow the HR department to use the new system by the second quarter of the next year (University of Phoenix, 2011). Project Overview The current system is linked to a financial systems package that only keeps track of employee information. Many of the sub-systems were created and are run by individuals such as managers or data entry clerks. Currently, there are seven different sub-systems operating within the HR department. All but one sub-system is run internally by Riordan personnel. Workers' Compensation is outsourced to a third-party provider, which uses its system and keeps its records. The sub-systems use different methods of collecting and viewing data. The common thread seems to be the use of Excel. Hard copy files are stored in random locations such as locked files in offices or a central storage area. There is little consistency......

...College of Information Systems & Technology BSA/375 Version 13 Fundamentals of Business Systems Development Service Request SR-rm-022, Part 2 Application Architecture and Process Design I think when dealing with application architecture and process design you will need to define the interface between the businesses along with the technical view for information systems. The most important part of the process is important in order to build a consistent application through System Development Life Cycle phases. In the following table, I have depicted the application architecture and process design for Riordan Manufacturing: Riordan Manufacturing Operational Requirements Since Riordan Manufacturing requires portability, thin client-server architecture must be used because it is easier to write HTML5 standards for this type of server. Then the system can conduct transactions via the internet through employees’ browser. Integration of the updated HR system with the existent software is a must. To meet system requirements for integration with employee desktop computers Riordan should us client server architecture. Riordan Manufacturing Performance Requirements Riordan Manufacturing is looking for a high tech system, one that can handle its Human Resources payload, forms, and documents.
