“Two Ways Of Looking At Smoking”

The word “cigarette” is a very hard word for those who don’t smoke. They think this act is useless and there are no benefits. Some people think it is a social thing, they only smoke when they’re at parties or drinking wherever they are; they can’t drink without smoking. Others say it’s not bad that it does in fact make you a more relaxed person and makes the skin looks better. There are many stories about smoking, I smoke and what it means to me is not any of the previous reasons, and I’m not saying it is good to do it, but I have my own opinion about it. I started to smoke when I turned 18 years old, because in Mexico there are too many people who do that, and it doesn’t mean I had to, but you become more easily attached to this product when everybody does it. I’ve always been surrounded by people like this, so I thought “what can I lose?” and started the process. You begin to smoke when you think there’s nothing wrong with doing it. You tell yourself “Ok, if she does it, I don’t think it would be bad for me to try it”, so you start generally with your friends. They tell you that if you don’t like it, you can just stop doing it. The first time I tried it I coughed, which is the most common reaction in the first three or four times you do it. I was watching my friend Natalia do it and I could not believe what she did. She made it look so easy to do, but I saw how that stick was burning down and like magic it came out in a ghost shape; it was too much for me. When you try it once you may not like it because it’s not a nice taste. It’s a unknown thing you have never experienced and you’ll say “Ew, I won’t try this again” but the thing is that teenagers are so manipulative and if you don’t do it again they may say to you “Okay, you’re gay” or laugh at you, because they want you to do what they do that is wrong, and they know it,…...

Looking Up and Looking Around

...Reading 1.3  Jackall, R. (1988) Chapter 4, ‘Looking Up and Looking Around’, in Moral Mazes, Oxford University Press, NY. Abstract In the early sections of “Looking Up and Looking Around” Jackall seeks to explain the reasons behind inadequate decision making processes and ability. The circumstances and environments that cultivate ‘decision-making paralysis’ and a lack of individual decision making ability are explained. Numerous examples and reasons are outlined to communicate a manager’s fear of failure, reluctance to make decisions and inability to make effective decisions when required at all hierarchical levels. If a decision must be made, particularly for an unexpected situation or problem, there is a tendency to look up, at superior’s intents and desires, and look around, at the general consensus of peers, before making any decisions. Jackall also explains managerial short term focus, the corporate culture of self interest and the reasons for each. In particular, he explains the manager’s interest in their progression and preference for short term, self promoting, often political, decisions over rational decisions that benefit the organisation in the long term. These passages show that personal ambition prevents good, rational decisions being made. Jackall also shows how this extends to the blaming of others and changing jobs in order to avoid being accountable for the consequences of previous decisions or strategies that enabled individual corporate progression. In...

Outline and Explain Two Ways Families Socialise Children

...Outline and explain two ways families socialise children. (16) The family for most people in the contemporary UK is the main agent of primary socialisation. There are multiple ways in which the family socialises young people. Firstly the family teaches the basic norms and values of society. This allows the young to copy older family members and see them as role models for how they are supposed to behave in society. The basic norms passed on from generation to generation through the family can be as simple as how and where to eat when it comes to family meal times. These simple norms are important to pass on because it reflects wider values, for example the importance of family eating together at mealtimes and keeping a close bond within a family unit. Secondly the family also displays many gender roles which may influence an individual’s perspective of what is right and wrong when it comes to gender. For example a young boy may see his father go out to work every day and providing for the family as the main wage earner known as the ‘breadwinner’, while his mother my stay at home or work only part time caring for the children and taking on the role of the homemaker. This is likely to have an impact on how he would view gender roles within the family. This does not mean that he will copy these gender roles later on in life with his own family; however it is likely to influence the way he perceives gender roles and may lead him on to set paths in life....

Looking in

...  Looking In I agree that I can read other people emotions. As a leader in the military this skill is a must. You have to have the pulse of your unit, you have to be able to see that your soldier(s) are having a problem. I agree that I can easily perceive and expression my emotions, however there is always room for improvement. I will continue to “read” people and try to assist them in any way I can. We all need help at one time or another even if it’s just talking to someone to get something off ones chest. I will start working on my lack of patience sometimes. I will stop, assess the situation and make a rational decision. I do from time to time have a lack of patience and this is an area that I will continue to seek self-improvement on. This self assessment will assist me in the work place because it shows me I have the ability to perceiving and identifying other emotions. By having this ability it will allow me to be a better member of the team. If I have a co-worker that is easily annoyed by something, I will pick up on that and I can adjust my approach on working with him/her to avoid conflicts. By implementing this assessment into my work place it will also let me know who I can express emotion too and know how certain people will respond to a show of emotions. I can also use this tool to understand how I will react in certain situations and how I can respond to conflict or adversity. Interpersonal communication is the process of sending and receiving......

Two Ways in Which Hr Will Deliver Value for Your Organization

...Two ways in which HR will deliver value for your organization 1. HRM plays as a partner in corporate strategic planning. Many people see HR only as a non-profit generating department which requires the least ability and makes few contribution to stronger the company. If you still hold views as such, then welcome to this new era! These old school thoughts do not work anymore! In today’s world, changing is the ever-lasting theme. Nothing is for sure except for change. The same for HR which is transforming its role from transactional to transformational. In addition to its basic functions such as recruiting, staffing and delivering compensations. HRM now plays as a partner in corporate strategic planning. What’s essential for the companies nowadays is to be aware of and take advantage of the change, thus the organization’s ability of learning is crucial. The ability to sense the equilibrium, to make quick reactions, to adjust corporate strategies in order to maintain the high performance all along. To achieve these, HR must be engaged in adjusting the staffing, making recruitments, creating new performance appraisals, enhancing employee morale, and helping employees developing career path and making personal development to help corporate better meets its goals. A New Way of Looking at Ptsd

...act violently or out of character in some other way. This can be interpreted common actions of someone who has just been in a warzone for a prolonged period, but the strange way they act is often defined as a symptom of some sort or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder similar to what you would see in victims of rape or violent crimes. The PTSD experienced in these violent crime victims and veterans are not the same the way each of the symptoms line up side to side is enough proof that the experiences are clearly different fundamentally. The tension is that not all veterans are afraid of what they saw and reliving it over and over because they have no choice. The problem lies in them missing the war experience rather than trying forget it. Veteran’s face serious social obstacles acclimating back into the society of the U.S. and as a culture we have become increasingly infatuated with individualisms ideals which makes it harder for them to build rapport with their community. It is necessary to explore how we as a culture are responsible for what happens to our veterans not just when they’re overseas but also when they come home. We also must examine more abstract ways of examining troubled veterans because there is an egregious amounts of troubled individuals who are experiencing unique struggles but are being treated as if they are uniformly effected by PTSD, which they aren’t. There still remains a significant gray area in the ways in which we treat our returning troops. For......

...subscribe to a cable or satellite system if they wish to record programs off these channels. Besides ease of programming and much larger recording capacity than videotape, PVRs allow the user to watch a prerecorded show while the unit is recording a new program, pause watching live programs (for example, if the phone rings) and then resume watching the rest of the live broadcast, view instant replays and slow motion of live programs, and skip commercials. In effect, PVRs, like older VCRs, allow viewers to control when they watch broadcast programs (called “time shifting”). However, PVRs provide much sharper pictures and are much simpler to operate than VCRs and PVRs allow the user to download the television schedule for the next week. Two companies currently sell the hardware and provide the subscription service: TiVo and ReplayTV. Both firms started 1997. As of 2008 TiVo had nearly four million subscribers and ReplayTV had been purchased by DirectTV. Companies are developing new technologies that make it even easier for users to “snip” commercials. Cable companies have begun offering a combined cable box and PVR in one unit for a small additional monthly charge. This further simplifies setup and operation, and the user gets a single bill.   1. Discuss how PVRs will affect the demand from advertisers? 2. Suppose you are in charge of setting the price for commercial advertisements shown during Enemies, a top network television show. Realities Two Way Street

...Realities Two-Way Street Ignorance is bliss. This phrase, however comforting, is a provocative statement to the debilitating state of society and the human state of mind; the dual-edged comment is represented in both Plato’s Allegory of the Cave and the Wachoski brother’s The Matrix through universes, similar to our own, where people are in strong states of illusion and ignorance. Both have a character, which is brought to the “light” to realize this false reality and to liberate everyone else to a better reality, the “real” reality. Situations can arise where having knowledge of it can seem detrimental, however, our very existence as human beings is to live a life of bettering ourselves and the species in general through knowledge both good and bad, and the actions that take place from knowledge. People do actions and make decisions based on history from what he has done wrong or from what he has done correctly and on this basis it is a stepping stone that either good or bad having knowledge of the past, complete knowledge, helps to mold the future positively. Although blissful, avoiding reality will never be a positive action with even in modern days something such as Facebook has become our matrix keeping people away from the outside, not personally and physically interacting with others or now having games that are virtually realities allowing someone to be something else but does not benefit the world in any way. The lack of benefit world is where virtual reality does......
