Why is training an important requirement for organizations to undertake? Have you participated in organizational training, and if so, do you feel that it was successful? Why, or why not?

According to Ivancevich (2010), training is essential in giving an employee the knowledge and skills he needs to continue to make a positive contribution to the company. I have attended many training sessions throughout the years both centralized and decentralized. I have found most to be successful in teaching me a trait that I needed at that time in my career. I will use my training for project management that my company sent me to last year. This was a centralized training designed to teach both new and seasoned PMs the tools available to them to perform their jobs. This was informative because they went over the software in detail and the expectations of the company for PM deliverables. It was also educational to hear what other PMs were doing in their offices. Throughout the company certain offices develop different ways of running their projects while still maintaining the basics that the company requires. Exchanging these ideas can spur positive changes on a process that may not be working out in another location. I believe that centralized training is more effective in getting different offices to perform activities in the same fashion. I am also a proponent of decentralized training that utilizes the same trainer traveling from site to site. The only downfall of that is that you may not get the feedback and that another office gave.
